NBA 2K10 News Post

The NBA 2K10 Association mode is where some gamers make their living. Some will choose to take a championship-caliber team to the top, but many others will select a bottom-feeder team and build that squad into a contender -- the challenge is half the fun after all.

So I will be focusing on turning a bottom-feeder team into a championship-caliber team. But for the record, regardless of what you choose to do, Association mode is a blast. Being able to control your team is a dream come true for most gamers.

Now pay attention, these steps may just help you create the next NBA dynasty.

as usual, OS provides some good tips for games, from the posters and the big boys.

#! being a must
control those teams!

I'm not sure I want to control all 30 teams. It's a good feature but I feel like it takes the spontaneity out of the Association. Granted, I know that 75% of the big stars will re-sign with their teams regardless, but I don't want to feel like I'm cheating by not re-signing so-and-so or by accepting my own trades. I know CPU trade logic and off-season logic is faulty too, but at least it makes things interesting.

I can definitely see this as an advantage, but what I'm going to do is run 2 assocations; 1 with my wonderful Chicago Bulls, and the other one with all 30 teams. Or should I just run one assocation with controlling all 30 teams, and my primary use of one team(Bulls)?

Controlling all 30 is the only way to go

I see the validity in controlling all 30 teams. But, someone else mentioned the spontaneity, which I like (Dwight Howard for Greg Oden....SURE!).

For those of you who've done it, can you start the association controlling all 30, and then later go back to just 1 or 2 teams? Like after getting through Free Agency?

I don't believe so....but there are a ton of automated features in the game which make running all 30 teams easier.

The best part of having all 30 teams is being able to control other teams rotations. Nagging injuries in 2k will drop a guys rating by 20 pts but he will still be in the starting lineup. Most players will play all 82 which is rare feat in the NBA.

With all 30 I can sit players who need to sit and give bench players a time to shine and get there numbers...ala JJ Redick on Sunday.

I control all 30 teams and practically auto everything. I still have the randomness I like, with as little involvement as possible (I let the CPU handle trades, some signings, drafting + scouting, while I do the rest, like hiring coaches and the like). Any stupid trades that I see the PC do, I just undo them.

It really is a great option to have this year.

Great write up and will take your advice on controlling all 30 teams to get the best association experience I can ...Thanks again

Wait, the CPU will still propose/complete trades? If that's so, then OK, I'm all for controlling all 30 teams.

BTW, can I manually scout/train my team's players, and let the CPU handle the other teams? Again if that's possible, then I'm all for it.

I am a bit confused about this myself. I played as all 30 teams and put everything on automated. The computer never once made a trade or signed a free agent?

I've got the game for xbox so maybe the PC version works better.

Hmm..guess I'll have to sim through an association season to see if I get the same results (cuz my computer sure as hell can't run 2k10; I don't think it could run Live 95!).

Sorry, I'm not sure about the console version. On my 360 the CPU won't trade, but they will do everything else (scouting and stuff). I haven't tested the offseason stuff yet on my 360.

Why is it that the players on my team never seem to get better? I like to sim seasons during association mode and for some reason my players overall go down rather than going up.

Also does the Development option in the Coach tab really work? Ive used it a few times on players but it seems like when i pass the "Challenge Shot" game it does nothing for my player. I've actually done the improve "Shooting" game and passed but my players shooting went from a B- to a C when i checked later.

Just found an answer to my question. From The Xbox 360 Patch topic "Fixed an issue where player ratings would drop upon the successful completion of a Development Drill.". So its a glitch and will be fixed with the patch. Looks like i wont be doing any of those drills until the patch comes out.

wait...so the CPU wont do trades even if everything other team is automated fot trades except mine??if it will work correctly,i.e the comp does trades on it's own for teams I for which I have selected the auto trades option then I'm all for this 30team stuff...but if not I'm sticking to one,we gota get this sorted out,I've been waiting to start my main association, right now I'm doing a fantasy draft season n it's absolutely amazing...I created my own team with the much improved CAT feature...but my Laker season is on hold until we sort this CPU trades thing when controlling all 30...

Hopefully the trade bug is fixed in the patch. The computer will not sign free agents or make trades with the automated feature on. Really disapointed with how many bugs are in this game.

Controlling all 30 teams is definitely something I'll stay away from. Maybe it will make stats and rosters a little bit more realistic that way but I could really care less about realism (it's already pretty realistic anyway), I just want to have fun controlling one team.
