NHL 2K10 News Post

It’s hard to believe that it has been nearly 10 years since NHL 2K debuted on the Dreamcast, but nonetheless here we are, celebrating the 10th anniversary of a series that, at various times in its history, has been considered the finest hockey videogame available on consoles. While many will argue the 2K series peaked around NHL 2K7, or perhaps as early as NHL 2K3, 2K Sports and developer Visual Concepts are nevertheless here with their latest hockey offering, NHL 2K10.

Is this the game that puts the 2K series back on the top of the hockey videogame mountain? Maybe not, but if nothing else, it represents an interesting alternative for those looking for a fresh take on the sport.

I post here because I like the game.

I respectfully disagree as well. Care to share some insight as to why you feel this way? Thanks

Even with the RIGHT kind of tweaking each version became playable. I'm actually in the anti-k8 camp as I think the poor defensive positioning on both ends of the ice ruins the entire game. At least k9 and 10 made efforts to correct some positioning and AI strategy (though they too have needed assistance in tweaking to "work").
Couldn't agree more.
Sure, 2K8 beats 2K10 in some aspects, but as far as offline AI go, 2K10 destroys 2K8 in my experience.
In 2K8 I could give up dozens of breakaways or odd-man rushes without fear. The AI simply did not have the capacity to capitalize on opportunities like that.
In 2K10, I HATE giving up breakaways. Especially to star forwards. They burn you way more than they don't. And that's a good thing.

Exactly. I'll usually attempt a diving poke check if I'm close enough due to fear

I have to say I don't agree with this at all. These are not fan club boards. They are game discusion boards. I don't know why people started taking it personally when someone doesn't like the same video game they do. In a thread about 2k10 reviews I think it's constructive to come on here and say that you don't feel anything has changed in years. Then people doing research on the game can get a balanced view, not a group of people throwing praise at the game without discussion. I wish the boards were more like they used to be and you could just say what you thought of a game.

Yes, but when you come on the 2K forums or into a 2K or even EA thread for that matter and have NOTHING positive to add to the negative, it's borderline trolling. I would be willing to bet that the said poster hasn't even played the game and if he as, maybe only once or twice on default settings.

I have been thinking of getting this game and now with the price dropping I will have to pick it up.

It sounds like the price at Best Buy might have gone back to $39.99, but that can't last very long. The people buying it at Target for $12.48 or whatever were probably getting it on their red tag clearance sales. As a "professional Target shopper", I can tell you that's what they do when they're clearancing out games that they no longer want to carry in their display case. Target and other retailers will only stock like the Top 20 games or whatever. They'll also carry Platinum hits or other discounted titles like Mass Effect, Dead Space, etc. for a lower price, but probably not a game like 2k10 that didn't sell well.

Either Best Buy will drop this to $19 or $29 soon enough, or GameStop will do the same (or sell used copies for even cheaper).

I picked it up for $34.99 used at Gamestop. The game looks great. Need to tweak a few things I won 7-4 and 8-3 with Montreal

this game is fun to me. NHL 10 is great but, I enjoy this better.

I enjoy the game, but I constantly find myself saying, I wish they did it like that or this, and almost great. And at times I am like, wow, thatīs awesome. Being an old 2K fan, I really see the game as this :

If they fix the animations, especially the jerkiness of the animations and the transitions it would benefit the game alot. The jerkiness takes away from the game but can be fix.

Also the game is a bit hyper when you shoot and pass and deke, meaning they are superquick. Speed the default gamespeed up, and slow down the animations of shots and make the dekeing smoother and make it so that you donīt "float" when you deke.

Board pinning is way more realistic than EAs, an easier way to pin against the board would be good though. But way more realistic than EAs suction board pinning.

I really like the slappers, a bit too fast maybe?

Wristers have a great feel, but a bit fast animation.

Love the way players keep the puck in Zone along the blue. Great.

Shot aiming was really good and good amount of missed shots compared to other NHL2k games.

Sounds : Whistle sound gotta go! itīs too loud , and I would say take it away !

Slapshot sounds are too loud, rework.

Sound overall could use a more realistic approach.

Also Remove sounds from the replays and have all the sound from the replay. Rather have a PBP style recap over the replays from the period.

GFX:
Animations are key to 2Ks realism factor to me, I really like alot of the animations, like the battle for pucks, celebrations after goal. But without great transitions and with the jerkiness itīs just gets nullified. Fix it.

Fix the awful referee!!! Itīs awful. Always fix the most seen assests first!

Love the areanas and intros, just polish!

Players seems a bit too small in body size , otherwise good.
Fix goalies though.

Player numbers still look small when zoomed out, probably because of LOD models. I would rather have more low poly players in high mesh and with LODs with better size on the jersey numbers.

Some more refined textures on the boards with the puck marks.

How about some non-banding overlays in the menues?
And what is it with 2K and contrast? Black should be black not, dark grey. All 2K games have this , in menues especially.

And finally, go sim all out for NHL2k11 guys!

Forgot
Fix the turn animations when receiving the puck , itīs takes too long to make that crazy half turn when getting the puck. Remove that and add some friction to the ordinary skating instead.

I just have to say that despite it being almost a decade now, it's great to be able to go back and read intelligent reviews for games you're revisiting.

So I recently went through my collection of around 200 last gen games looking for a decent playing football game , there's a post about it in the Madden forum if interested. Anyway I came across NHL 2k10 and put it in. I forgot how good this game is. I just started playing NHL 19 through EA Access last week, just my opinion but I feel 2k10 is better. Yes it's dated and does have all the fancy bells and whistles but as far as on the ice game play goes I'm sticking with 2k10. What happened to this series? Why did they stop making NHL games?
