NHL All-Star Comparison NHL 10 vs. NHL 2K10 (IGN)

Both NHL 10 and NHL 2K10 are scheduled to hit store shelves in two weeks so we thought it would be a good idea to do a player comparison between the two clashing franchises. We've assembled the top five players in the league based on all-star voting from last year and supplied ratings and screens for each. The newer Bauer helmets look pretty terrible in NHL 10 but outside of that it really does blow 2k out of the water from a graphical standpoint.

The only one that looks better to me is Kolavea on NHL 10. I like the style of 2k10. I think NHL 10 will be the better game though

Here are my votes:

Sidney Crosby - 2k10
Patrick Kane - 2k10
Alexei Kovalev - NHL10
Evgeni Malkin - NHL 10
Alex Ovechkin - NHL 10

Although NHL 10 wins 3-2 in my opinion (Malkin and Ovechkin were toss-ups, imo), their helmets look ridiculously oversized! Nonetheless, I'm not ever going to base a buying decision based on the accuracy of faces.

I actually think Ovechkin looks better in NHL 10, but Crosby looks better in 2K.

Kane looks like an alien in both. lol

Either way, both games look good this year

Ovechkin looks good in 2k10. Overall I think EA took that one home, but overall I must say that the pics of player faces I have seen in 2k10 looks really good.

Now let�s see IGN to the same comparsion of the areanas of NHL2k10 and NHL10.

Except for the fact that Realm actually BUYS both games and givers both a fair chance. Venom is very close-minded and will never give EA a fair shake as he is so biased. It's like EA killed his dog or something...

I think EA's look better in general, bit that isn't to take anything away from the 2k pics as they look great too and are a HUGE improvement over last year. I think we need to consider how far they've come in this area.

In agree, I would say they look about equal, I personally prefer 2k.

Also for the guy who said that Alex Ovechkin looks better in NHL10 you must be smoking something, Alex Ovechkin look perfect in 2k.

Actually, i have to agree with IGN's votes. Outside of Ovie, 2K's guys look generic to me, i like the detail on NHL 10's faces much much better.

I think 2k looks great IMO....I hope there gameplay is on par this year..

Plus I would take a little less player detail and take 2k presentation and atmosphere over NHL10 generic area's and lake of atmosphere anyday.

I agree. If gameplay is on par with the presentation and atmosphere I think it's a no brainer to go 2k this year. Esepcailly since as you said in the NHL 10 demo thread it seems similar to last year although I do think some things are better in it but still similar to last year which I enjoyed for a while but then got tired of it.

I thought the render shot they threw out there originally looked fantastic, but it's not the same model they're using in the game, and it's pretty obvious. He doesn't look terrible, but he's definitely not the most accurate face in the game.

Hell, I think Big Joe looks fantastic in 2k. Setoguchi looks dead on as well. Both are miles ahead of Ovie's face, but again, just one man's opinion.

The moral of the story is, your team will look better if the devs are hometown fans of your team? Sharks fans get quite a treat.
