NBA 2K10 News Post

Another NBA Developer Insights is online, this one talking about NBA 2K10 and NBA Today.

Quote:
"NBA Today is a revolutionary way to experience the NBA 2K game play you love. In the “old days” you’d fire up your basketball game and wind up on a team select screen…try to figure out what matchup you wanted to play and then get going. When it came to commentary, presentation and overlays your game was happening in a vacuum. There was nothing “real” about it. It was a fantasy matchup that had no real-world context and no impact. There was a limited list of subjects the commentators could discuss. They could talk about what was happening in that particular game and they could talk about what happened last season. That was pretty much it.

In NBA 2K10 that’s all changed. NBA Today takes the sport you love, NBA basketball, and the game you love, NBA 2K, and finally puts them in the same “world”. When you start 2K10, your Internet-connected console will reach out and grab all the latest information about what’s happening in the league. After that, you won’t land on the team select screen: instead you’ll go directly to the NBA Today screen which lists the REAL NBA matchups that are actually being played TODAY. Additionally you will see a breakdown of scores from last night’s games, as well as view which players in tonight’s matchups are leading their teams in the various stat categories. Furthermore, while the game is loading you’ll get a quick update on how both teams did in their last games and the stats their key players put up. From the NBA Today Menu, you can access box scores for ALL NBA games that have already been played, division and conference standings, league leader stats, the latest transactions, follow any trades that are happening around the league, and check out an All-Star voting watch menu."

Heh, except that Live also has dynamic commentary that was already announced with 100+ storylines that get activated through the DNA updates.

This sounds like it might be a little better, but the concept isn't new or something far beyond what Live will have. Just an FYI in case you missed that announcement.

You can never have enough stat overlays in the game. Its one of those "little" things, that fans have appreciated for quite some time, but it hasn't been done quite to the extent that it could be done. Having overlays to coincide with the commentary, then have the commentators delve deeper into the statistics that showed up on the overlays (rather it be road trips, injuries, individual performance from previous game etc), makes this sound like commentary has finally took that "next level" step. They've promised new commentary in the past, but never to this extent, and never with this type of detail and excitement. Then you add to the fact, that the commentators are no longer locked into their lines when something big happens..........

As I've said, now that anticipation is building with me, slowly but surely.
Very true.

I'm not worried about 2K's presentation, they're miles ahead of Live imo (will have to wait and see for '10 though). But seems like they outdid themselves again this year.

Sounds real good. I really don't care much about NBA Today as I spend most of my time in the franchise mode of whatever game, but the fact that they can do what they say they're going to do flat-out amazing.

Nah its far beyond Live's imo because it effects franchise. DNA has nothing to do with my ongoing franchise and only effects play now and online games. If Wade gets traded in real life but not in my season, I dont want to hear the announcer talking about the adjustments that th Heat will have to make now that Wade is gone.

I think they (iminurbase)hinted that it would affect dynasty but you know they have a schedule on when they release certain info

Nope, it's in every mode. If you're playing online or quick games, it'll be based off of the DNA updates/real-life information. If you're in Franchise, the storylines feed off the in-franchise information (i.e. Granger has a huge year and leads the league in scoring).

Thanks.
I've never played that game but I'll search videos on youtube to see what the commentary looks like.

I wonder how much of this Dynamic Commentary went into the game. An updated commentary is definately what this game needed, but if the commentary really is consistantly talking about new things that are being done in the game, I wonder if their words will also be dynamic . For instance: "That was a great shot." | "What a great shot that was by________." | "What an amazing shot put up by ________." etc... That way it wont be like ... 'I've heard that before.'

Love the idea but we'll see...can't say I trust the info 100%

Dethrone the show u then went to far just of commentary they got to fix the gameplay first lol

# 98 Stumbleweed @ 08/18/09 05:05 PM
They'll never live down the "dynamic commentary" fiasco from 2K9 haha, that's why everyone is so skeptical. I hope for the best though, because that would make all modes more interesting and realistic presentation-wise.

# 99 NELL86 @ 08/18/09 05:13 PM
2k do this every year what happend to the 2k insider to counter act live dna it was wack what happen to 2k online teamplay it was wack im feeling a pattern going on here

# 100 Eman5805 @ 08/18/09 11:02 PM
If they can actually pull this off, then this game will have THE best presentation in the business.

But, will there be a lengthy download or will there be some kind of...streaming thing from the internet with all the fresh commentary? Also, will this mean that all through the season Mark Jackson and whoever the other nobody is will be recording new lines? I mean it has to mean that, right?

I'm hopeful, but...just seems like they're claiming more than they're capable of. Like maybe they'll have up to date stuff but it might get some glossed over generic commentary on it that can apply to anything. Like...

"Here's what -the Hornets- have done lately..."
