I’m sorry Dave, I can’t do that – HAL 9000 in 2001: A Space Odyssey

HAL’s classic line was what ran through my head last year when Dynamic DNA was unveiled at E3 ’08. But it’s not because I thought Dynamic DNA would become a self-aware AI that one day turned on me, though, what a twist that would be. Instead it was because the idea of a learning/changing/evolving AI system was a real hard thing for me to grasp as a sports gamer. I don’t think I was the only gamer who was overwhelmed either.

It also seemed like Dynamic DNA was a hard thing for the Live developers to wield last year. Taking all that real-world data and cramming it into a game on a daily basis so the experience was always different was a huge undertaking, and it showed in NBA Live 09 as the system was only sort of “Dynamic.”

Thats what i was thinking... in live 09 half the time when you passed the ball on a fast break the reciever stops and get in triple threat position and alot of other errors.

Thanks for the write up. Still waiting to hear something positive about GAMEPLAY. So far all the previews from various sites are mentioning the other added stuff, but none of it means a thing to me if the game still plays terrible.

right, but to ask a rhetorical question - is he looking like D. West? or doesn't West shave his head?

Honestly, if you took away the number I had no idea who that was. Not trying to keep harping on the player faces so far... I just like the way the builds look there.

One guy is more noticeably bigger than the other.

Promising words so far....so far -

It astounds me that he has hair. hair or no hair? why did they choose the former for a guy who in real life shaves his head

where is the crowd looking at in the west-durant picture? at erin andrews or what?!

those little things sound really good. but realism with these little things have to be perfect ... otherwise 2k wins again.

Good read Chase, thanks.
Not having gameplay to judge makes for interesting speculation..

Picture please?

But on a serious note, will the blog contain pictures that will represent what Santos will be talking about? Or will it simply be his words, thanks.

All of Ryan's blogs will be backed up by pics.

I'm just reading all of these comments about player faces and I can't WAIT to show you guys this stuff.

We have facial animations this year that change the way a player looks from a idle face. Dwight's puffy cheeks in the video? It's because he's puffing them, not because that's how his face looks.

nice Steph. Did Kobe's scowl make it in?

# 39 ai2k2 @ 07/24/09 07:11 PM
I hope they have the kobe scowl and the wade tongue out a la the gatorade ad where he is dunking and is slightly mimicing Jordan. Goes with the recent signing to Jordan Brand as well. Lol. Even though the pic is from the championship run yr.
