Beautiful video, I can't even really nitpick at, Madden10 shaping up nicely.

There's so much unnatural movement in that video it's literally borderline comical for me. It almost looks like a caricature of the NFL with the in-close hype trailer approach highlighting some of the game's obvious deficiencies. In other videos it looks better from a gameplay camera viewpoint.

Yea the movement is laughable at times.

I know this has been beaten to death here, but it wasn't until I watched this promo video that I really realized how awful these animations really are. For some reason, the regular gameplay footage seems to hide it a bit better... but wow... those are miserable.

I think it has to do with EA's replays having missing frames.

I love that excuse by EA the most. How many times do we actually watch a play where the ball went through a players or did something stupid in the animation or looked that bad and it looks the same on the replay?

I want a video capture device instead of my web cam to record stuff, there are too many times in the live action of 09 that stuff is wrong and when you go to the replay you get the tired line of "oh, the replay has less frames, that didn't happen like that in the game" yes, it did, don't lie to me. I belive there are less frames, but it still happened. Maybe it just didn't look as ugly, but it was still ugly.

Gameplay videos Ian posted look nice, the trailers look horrid. They look like the old madden team is behind them. Maybe we have the same marketing guys. Phil or Peter or whomever should have told the marketing team to make a new style of Promo videos as well as the new direction of the game.

I really don't like the animation but as long as it doesn't happen often, that's fine IMO. It does happen in the NFL on occasion to the QB.

I don't know what it is, but this trailer looks like it was shot with Madden '09. A lot of the animations don't look nearly as complete as the videos we've seen.

The running animation that Reggie had last year suites him better than the one we saw in this video.

Madden 09 Animation:

Real Reggie Run:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8aRh2WUz18

The run animation we saw in that video waay back from Ian should ONLY be for big lumbering runners. NOT for elite speed guys(Hester, Bush, CJ, Parker, etc...)

# 50 Von Dozier @ 06/20/09 02:18 PM
The reason the animations look so "bad" I believe is because of there being no real acceleration. Immediately after a player breaks a tackle and is going through a motion to get his balance back, it goes straight into that chest-up leg-pumping perfect run animation, and it makes it look very fake and robotic.

Though this should be fixed next year as Ian has said he wants to include the FIFA acceleration (forget the word for it) engine.

Aside from that, I really liked the presentation side of things.

Well I was just referring to how the animations look better in gameplay than in the trailers. The animations are missing frames. Clipping happens in every sports game though. The only 1 I've seen remedy it so far is fight night.

I would add UFC as well. That game does a good job in not having the fighters "clip" in my experience.

Personally I don't care much about the clipping; my problem is Tiburon's approach to animations themselves. That's what looks unnatural. The lumbering half jog/half run that all players seem doomed to have to live with. There's one point where a TB receiver makes a one-handed catch - which looks weird because of the movement - then doesn't bother to secure the ball, which looks more weird. Then he sort of frump a dump runs with that half jog/half run anim that already looks weird. Reggie Bush breaks a tackle where two defenders seemingly try to hug him while standing straight up. Drew Brees runs through a LB tackle attempt then does a qb slide immediately after lol. The lack of physics all over the place; especially on the Bush dive into the end zone. Just a lot of awkward movement to occur in so short a period of time, that someone obviously thought looked cool. It doesn't.

(imo of course)

ugh, why do the marketing videos have the opposite effect on me than was intended

I haven't read any of the posts, but one thing that has been sticking out that I do not like is the new over the shoulder catch they added this year. The problem is that this animation seems to play out in places it shouldn't. The ball will be thrown over the left shoulder and the receiver will trigger this animation and seemingly float over so that the ball goes over his right shoulder.

Overall this animation just looks rather ugly to me. Maybe when I play the game though and see it from a regular gameplay angle it will be less pronounced than the zoomed in angle.

This.

A few quick thoughts...

- Madden needs a true physics based system. Hopefully for the next gen iterations they'll have an equilvalent to euphoria.
- I LOVE the over the shoulder catches by the WR's.
- Brees break tackles, come on now. That really irritates me. If a defender even breathes on a QB it should be a fumble 3/5 times. Unless it's Mcnabb, Big Ben or a QB of that stature.

To make the running animations more realistic, the strides of the players must be shorter.

I'd really like to hear Ian's point of view on this. They have to see it.
I still don't like the running animation being removed completely. Sure its not the most accurate. But it sure as heck isn't accurate for Reggie to run like a bigger back.

EDIT: Has that animation been removed from 10?
