Gamestop has posted some more details about NHL 10.

Quote:
" * New Battle for the Cup Mode: Experience the intensity of NHL playoff hockey. Play through injuries, intimidate rivals, and match lines as storylines carry across the entire series.
* Build a Stanley Cup Champion: All-new GM mode lets you scout amateurs, put players on the trading block, hire staff, and earn experience points to become a legendary GM.
* Battle on the Boards: Shield the puck with your body, kick-pass it to teammates, or pin your opponent against the boards with an all-new board play engine.
* All-New First-Person Fighting: Change the momentum by trading blows with an NHL enforcer. Tug an opponent’s jersey to gain an advantage—before or after the whistle.
* Become the Ultimate Pro: Improve your draft status by dominating the prospects game, then use new coaching tips, improved teammate AI, and detailed position instructions as you build the ultimate career.
* Capture Multiple Championships: The coveted EA SPORTS Hockey League Cup is always up for grabs as new seasons start on a monthly basis online.
* New Intimidation Tactics: Fore-check defenders, pressure the puck, and finish checks to force your opponent into mistakes, as players fatigue, bobble passes, and avoid collisions under threat of physical pressure.
* All-New Post-Whistle Action: The action never stops! Antagonize opposing players, finish checks, retaliate for late shots on goal, draw penalties, and pick fights—all after the referee blows the whistle!"

Hopefully it is the former and not the latter.
I imagine it will be a group of game generated rookies, being that EA can't legally put rookies in their game until they have signed waivers and played at least 1 NHL game. Thus the one month or so wait for rookies to be included via Roster Update.

Which is why it would be awesome if you could edit anyone from the draft class.

The prospects game will be cool for many reasons but one in particular will be to play against your peers. You'll get to see the other potential draftees and it'll be interesting to see how high or low they get picked.

It'll also make for some personal rivalries too.
Let's hope they put Orr and Cherry behind the bench too!

Yeah, allowing full editing would be awesome.

I guess the new goalie mode controls aren't going to be as big a deal as I hoped.

LOL. That would be hilarious. And have Cherry's suit change every shift.

eashl cup every month is a new season?? so what does this mean, instead of the eashl being the 1 long haul it was this year, there will be playoffs and prizes etc the end of each month for the top teams that month???

I hope that the AI has been improved so say... Kocci gives Crosby a nasty hit in the playoffs, Cooke and other Penguins will be nailing him.

Still, this game WILL be amazing. I think NHL 09 was the start of a new era for NHL games and it will only continue to grow..

Sounds super-tight.

Gosh, I just hope I can play any game in season mode.

"Match lines...as story lines carry across the entire series."....

I wonder what that means? I'm probably misunderstanding it but...I think it would be cool if NHL'10' had newspaper articles like the NCAA game has.

The GM mode sounds very interesting. It'd be great if dynasty mode got some nice upgrades. NHL '10' is sounding better and better.

Yea, i really hope that GM Mode is dynasty mode.

I am planning on starting up another dynasty in the Dynasty HQ section when '10 comes out and using some of those features, my dynasty could be even more successful then before.

Then every trade would have to be made by you which I thibk is kind of boring and less realistic.

Wrong. Then you could keep your roster completely accurate like I do. I like to keep my season right on par with the real one.

Like in the NBA last year when Jason Kidd got traded to Dallas. I was able to keep up with that on NBA 2K. Same goes for hockey.

Unrealistic?? I don't think so.

dorismary, you really have no clue what you are talking about. What you may consider to be "simple" or "basic" info is still info nevertheless. EA has a marketing plan in place where they release info at certain times (and with certain sites like Gamestop, etc). They don't want to release it too early as they don't want to tip their hand to the competition.

The NDA I signed is a legal contract that has some serious repercussions if any of the terms are compromised. You may not like it, and it may not agree with your schedule, but that's the way it is.

EA, 2k, or any company doesn't owe anyone anything...they could certainly wait a lot longer to release any information on their games. We are fortunate that they are active with the community and do release information prior to release.

Chill out, pal.

Thanks for explaining, I get what your saying, but you still dont get to be the GM, your just playing as if it were the real NHL..

Prospects game might be the first step to the Canadian Hockey League, hopefully if it is the 2009 draft class and we can move those guys to there right teams.

They might make it the draft class, minus the actual names, but they can't use the actual names of the players until they have played an NHL game and waivers are signed. They could always create the players under false names though and allow us to edit the names ourselves.

Well when EA made baseball games they always had fake players in AAA/AA/A and you could edit them into the right players.

Right, and if they did that, it would be great.

GM mode! GM MODE! GM MODE!

So much love right now, so very much love! This game just became an instant must buy, hell it shall be the first game I have ever preordered in my nineteen years of gaming~

This is fantastic, no awesome, no it is Super Special Awesome! (props to anyone who gets that reference)

Of course now I pretty much have no interest in playing NHL 09. I would like to have gotten my Dynasty off and running (and posted here as I planned) however been busy and my 360 died for a while. Nevertheless with GM Mode I will probably play this game religiously for a while. The board battles just puts the icing on the cake and the added Playoff intensity is the strawberry on top.

... now I wish I had some cake.
