These impressions aren't sounding too hot so far.

Same feel as last year, and the year before, and the year before....Can't justify a purchase from the demo for me. At this point, it's just obvious to me that Tiger Woods is what it is, and as it sells well, will never significantly change. I can't get into what this game is - arcade golf with a few sim-esque elements, but ultimately an arcade game at its core.

Barring a new Links game or some other new entry into the golf game realm, which appears increasingly unlikely with each passing year, I guess I am done playing video game golf...

^^ That pretty much sums up my thoughts after the demo and sadly I don't expect much more from the retail copy.

As many of the members here I wasn't very impressed with the demo either. Last TW game that I played (still play) is 08 and really expected the demo to feel a "little" different at the very least. I know it's on beginner difficulty but still the core gameplay elements to me seemed as though they were not improved too much.
There are nice additions to the game like the weather system and its effects on the gameplay. I think the new putting meter is a good step forward as well but but that would not justify purchasing the game for me.
I am not a huge optimist about the online tournaments because the game is still not a simulation type of game (would not allow scores in the 40s or even 50s) which just proves that the game has not made any leaps forward over the last couple of years.
If I get the game I would wait for it to drop @ around $30 and maybe get it then but I feel like the tiger woods series needs a major overhaul otherwise many fans of the game will be lost.

Demo was very unimpressive. Now I'm even hesitant on the Wii version, since it may end up being the same only with the 1:1.

Well I liked it.

I liked it. When playing a demo I take it for what it is, a demo.

The graphics look better, the grass and overall environment looks improved. The weather is cool, I like how there is a difference when playing in the rain vs a sunny day, which should be.

The presentation is an upgrade, feels like I turned on my tv set to watch the US Open, kind of got me excited to play.

I found myself putting without using the meter much, mainly go on feel, and noticed that putting is much more natural like 08 than the hole magnet feel of 09. I even had a few putts actual rim out that last year would of gone in.

I hate that vapor trail following the ball, I remember that Divot said its only in practice mode, but those sample tourny holes and the challenge it was still on??

Can't wait for the release.

That was my understanding. Some recent videos show no ball trail, so it may be related to the Beginner difficulty. Hope there is a way to turn this off within the game and hoping that it is off by default in TOUR Pro....

wow typical overreaction around here. Demo is on beginner so that must mean OMG THERE'S NO CHANCE OF IT HAVING GOOD SIM GAMEPLAY IM CANCELLING MY PREORDER AND NEVER BUYING IT AGAAAAIIIN!!!!!

It might not be a good sim experience in the end, but jeez lets wait for the game to come out before we jump to conclusions.

This game really hasn't changed a great deal. The models are actually looking worse (Tiger new model is horrible; can't believe he didn't make them change it). My biggest concern is that you can't play in a twosome or threesome against the cpu during a regular season tournament. The online features they're promising seem to be exciting though. Guess this will be the 2nd consecutive year I won't buy the game. I'll just get my fix with TW 08'.

I have not played a TW game in years. Mostly because once I found Links 2004, TW never compared even with the graphics being much better.

With that said, isn't the demo talk the same every year? Or at least the past couple of years? It seems that I remember the past couple of years, people trying the demo and it sucking because they were on Beginner level. Somebody buys the game and plays Tour level and adjusts it to be harder then posts impressions of the game playing MUCH different on Tour? I could have SWORN this is how it played out last year, maybe the year before.

Anyway, not trying to give anyone a hard time but it seems that while EA screwed up for sim players by not including a harder game mode, it might be wise to wait until the game ships, play it a bit and then make a decision. Or wait for impressions from people that you trust.

Point is: I wouldn't give up too quick just yet. It may not be what we want, but this happens all the time with games and demos. They release an easy level, people complain, someone buys it, that someone tells everyone that it is MUCH better on higher levels, and finally more people buy it and are happy or somewhat happy.

as much as I appreciate the upgrade in graphics, weather, better control in short game and putting, the crowd and feel of being in a tourney .... I am dropping my pre-order. i may pick this up later but it just seems as some said, been there done that.

Don't get me wrong... this game looks good and plays well. I just still don't get the same 1:1 feel in the swing as I do with Links 2004 nor do I see that angle of lies affect the ball flight as it should.

also you can get a decent idea of having the putting meter off by immediately moving it to the farthest point and then looking only at the stroke for distance... it's pretty good actually.

In a nutshell... this is the game I expected form TW 09.

My recommendation: Buy Tiger Woods every other year. Divides the $ in half... doubles the 'enhancements'. Golf games are nice because you don't feel obligated to buy every year for the new rosters (e.g. madden).

That said, I really do like this year's game and didn't buy last year's... so this is my year.

Upping the difficulty will add a lot...

I downloaded the demo on the PS3 and thought it was decent; the weather effects are nice and the putting is much improved, IMO.

That said, after seeing video of the Wii version and learning that it will be bundled with MotionPlus for 1-to-1 swing control and 9 more courses than the PS3 version, plus Disc Golf to boot, I traded in 09 and preordered 10 on the Wii in the full. From the hands-on preview on this site, it sounds like the swinging controls are accurate to a fault which will likely make the game much more difficult and certainly more kinetically interesting than the analog gameplay I've utterly mastered over the past two years.

I'm also disappointed that they're axing several courses from the next-gen version (including Sheshan, Wolf Creek, Gary Player, Riviera, Carnoustie, and Cog Hill) to make room for the new ones. The Wii version won't have that issue, and the Tour mode will be much less repetitive as a result.

If you did that in Links your shot would end up in the woods because you take a loss in power and accuracy if you paused with the shot stick before you pushed it forward.
It seem to get only worse by years, It just feels clunky and i have no control on how fast i swing.

I was thinking that maybe they could mapped the swing to rotating the stick? So the top of the swing would be to rotate the stick upwards and then complete. It seem like it more a golf swing the down to up motion.

After reading the blogs and looking at the new screenshots I was prety hyped about TW10. But after playing the demo it feels like nothing has changed. It all feels like last years game. The graphics arent that a great of an improvement. Yeah there are bigger crowds but whats the point when they all look the same and have a generic look about them. thats the problem with EA , they just keep making the same game with a few tweaks and changing the year on the package.

I agree 100% with your comment about the crowds. Making the crowds bigger actually makes it worse since it's more obvious how awful they are. They look like a bunch of randomly placed robots with almost no variety in appearance and reaction. One of the worst crowds in sports gaming, IMO.

I think people are overreacting to a demo that is locked on easy. Anyone that has been following the games progress this year should not be surprised by anything in the demo. This "I know it is on easy but, the core mechanics" talk is a little silly imo. Anyone that played last years game on Tour Pro knows that it significantly increased the difficulty and made those "core mechanics" more sensitive. They've said they have even made it more sensitive on Tour Pro this year. The only thing that us Tour Pro players can really take away from the demo is a taste of what the game looks like graphically, a taste of the new putting and see what the new tiger challenge is like. The actual gameplay will be very different on the Tour Pro difficulty. I'm not saying the game will be perfect and the best golf game ever, it probably will not. I'm just saying that you can't judge a whole lot from this demo.

The new precision putting doesn't seem 1:1 too me but, maybe it is the easy difficulty of the demo. The meter just didn't seem to move at the same speed as the golfers animation. If you move fast enough you can make your golfer's animation go all the way back and still only hit the ball 10 feet or so when it should be flying off the green. I would have to hold my putter's position and let the meter catch up to make if feel accurate. This kinda concerns me but maybe it will be better on Tour Pro.

I'm still torn between the PS3 and Wii version though. I flat out hate the graphics on the Wii and the consoles online multiplayer sucks compare to the 360 and PS3. But, if the Wii motion plus truly makes it a 1:1 swing then that makes the game so tempting. The only TW game I have played on the Wii was the very first one and I hated it because you could take a really golf swing motion without slicing or hooking the ball because you couldn't twist your hands (in a really golf swing your hand twist slightly at the top of you back swing and follow through). Can you really take a realistic golf swing with this years Wii version? What will season mode offer on the Wii and what difficulty settings does the Wii offer (anything like Tour Pro mode and club tuner)?
