Road to the Show mode in MLB 09: The Show is the best career mode I have ever played. Road to the Show was introduced in the 2007 iteration of The Show and has been a cornerstone of the series ever since. However, it is starting to show its age this year. In 2009, the developers have added more minor league stadiums and given you the ability to edit your player throughout his career.

In 2010, the developers are going to need to improve more than just the aesthetics to keep things interesting.

There are PLENTY of things they can improve on. I would like to see the stats and ratings system locked down (no bugs), then work on enhancing it. I made a few suggestions in the forum for improvements like making more in-game fielding (runner on 3rd, 2 out, tie game ... don't let the runner score) and baserunning (on 2nd, 2 out, tie game ... score the run) goals.

Awesome game though, but they can make 2010 so much better.

I wonder if they'll make it so you don't always have to toil for so long. You might make it to the majors quickly on a crap team but you're not going to be able to have dominant stuff yet because the attributes take forever. I'd like to see there be some way to be a Joba Chamerlain or a Lincecum who starts in the minors but you've got a lot of good raw talent already.

I hope that for next year you get to pick the type of player you will be to start your career. In other words, you could start with good power numbers but have poor contact ratings and be terrible in the field. Or you could have great speed on the bases and range in the field, but you can't hit to save your life. You would then have to focus more specifically on these areas to earn a shot in "The Show".

For example, it's not like Michael Bourn suddenly got fast because he worked extensively on it in the minor leagues. He was always fast but had to develop his baserunning abilities, contact, OBP, etc... before he made it to the majors (while still working on these things). Same thing with being a pitcher who can throw 96 mph. Plenty of guys in farm systems can do this starting out but it's the ones who develop their other pitches that have the most success. Also, no pitcher starts out throwing 84 mph in AA and then is throwing 98 mph by the middle of their MLB career. Bottom line, there are some attributes that you should either have from the start or not have at all.

I love this mode and play it extensively but this is one major thing I would love to see improved for next year.

You hit it on the head my friend.

Our RTTS players shouldn't be a pile of dirt in every area. I like the idea of a role that gives a strength in a certain area.

Other than that, I think the biggest thing that needs to be improved in RTTS is the point system and goal system. I HATE how I get sent down for not fulfilling my goals when I don't get the at-bats or I am raking the ball all over the field and my other ratings are dropping so i need to stabilize them but I'm punished for not improving my drag bunt.

I think the thing they need to fix the most is the player equipment, which is very close to being accurate, but there r small things that need change.

1. Edit baserunners who have batting gloves. Also players who where batting gloves under fielding glove.
2. Change color of sleeves, batting gloves, (more) fielding gloves, cleats, wristbands, armbands, tapes, elbow guards.
3. More bat colors.
4. Pinetar should not be standard on all bats.
5. Edit fielding glove style.

If they change these 5 things, I think this game will look so much better. Not that it already doesnt, but this would just put the final touch.

Presentation:

The intro is like a live TV broadcast, but the cameras and transitions in the game arent. So these r suggestions.

1. Real-time transition (MLB 2K9)
2. Replays need to be better (why is there a bat sound that echos during slow motion replay?)
3. HR camera is too arcady. It looks nice from a replay angle but when u hit it off the bat they need to make it more TV style
4. The game should have a "network name". MLB 09: THE SHOW shouldnt be a network name. A TV channel wouldnt be named that. They need to make a partnership wit the MLB Network and use their display or make up a name like SCEA Sports Network, etc.

I don't really mind loading times. There's a lot to load. I would rather have it take forever to load and a game like the Show and load really fast and have a game like 2K9.

RTTS needs to be just "flat-out" easier! Honestly, I've never made it to "The Show." Why in Franchise mode players with A pontentiall jump from average to really good in one season, but RTTS players take 4 years+ to make it...confusion! One thing that just frustrates me too is that "The Show" on PS2 is the same every year. I would love to get a PS3, but when your families house is for auction because you can't pay the bills, It's kind of hard to buy a $350 game system...Enhance PS2 a bit plz! Not to be rude but it is true.
"MLB 10: The Show" better have the Twins new Target Field...and I'll get to the Twins next!

The Twins have been way off in The Show. Morneau does not have regular, he has low sox! Mauer is the best hitter in the history of baseball(or hitting catcher) and his stance looks more like luis castillo's. Morneau bumps his bat on his shoulder too! Also the Twins jersey's for alternates are off. HOME=No sleeve and medium blue undershirts / AWAY=Blue home jerseys but MINNESOTA instead of TWINS.
The Twins are #1 in baseball in defense, not #13 and they are maybe #18 in hitting, #15 in pitching. + they have one of the best farm systems in baseball!
