NCAA Football 10 News Post

EA has posted another NCAA Football 10 blog. This one features player pursuit angles.

Quote:
"As you can see given the same situation as our previous example the defenders are not thrown off their angle by the direction changes. Long story short… the defenders do not fall for every direction change, but instead will move to intercept the ball carrier at a more logical location. This will really cut down on the effectiveness of “twitch” runs.

Also the new Player Pursuit will recognize a ball carrier pulling away from a slower defender and make them attempt a diving tackle. This creates more tackles and more realistic chase situations… more often than not a player will attempt a dive as a last ditched effort when they know they are falling behind, not just continue to follow the ball carrier.

That isn’t all; this new system has allowed us to have defenders sometimes take a bad angle using the Pursuit Rating (PUR) of the player. Bad pursuit is a part of football, not every player will play the perfect angle every play. So playing against lower rated players (or younger players with lower PUR) you will see them over run a play allowing the ball carrier to cut back against the gain and pick up some more yards."

Looks cool to me. Anything to make the CPU react better to what we're doing is a good thing.

It looks like the added the new Army enforcer camo jerseys and tried to add the Navy ones but they don't look right. The Navy enforcer jerseys are suppose to have navy blue with gold trim on the shoulders. Hope they can fix that.

Looks good, hopefully in NCAA10 we don't see stuff like that WVU play that really showed how bad pursuit angles were.

So glad this is fixed. I can't tell you how frustrating it was to play this or Madden and have someone run horizontal and then twitch back and forth to throw the A.I. off. Hope the fix also applies to Madden...

I love the "twitch" improvement and I think what they did with the first set of videos is good as long as it works correctly.

How many times on punt or kick returns in 09 have you had the defenders running "with" you and taking an angle to make the tackle 20 yards down the field rather than attempt a dive immediately from 2 yards away? It would be one thing if the angle worked but its like the speed of the player with the ball is ignored.

I would have thought that more direct angles (when possible) would've been the focus.

this now make 3 of my top 5 gameplay issues are either fixed or being worked on. OL/DL play, WR/DB play, and now pursuit angles. NCAA 10 is looking good so far.

What are the other two?

The lighting is BEAUTIFUL!

I hope it's dynamic

Two exact same tackles. Not the best sign. The Qb looks like a robot on the handoff as well.

Great stuff!

I am not trying to troll but they do look very similar.

I'll gladly have those if it means we get realistic game play. They can worry about animations for next year as long as this year puts a good game of football on the virtual gridiron.

Sounds good...I am glad they fixed this. BTW are those the new Army & Navy jerseys they wore last year? I have terrible vision btw.

Check out the 1st video, the DE or LB on the right side of the screen does the normal warp around and completely changes direction in .2 secs to chase after the runner after being engaged by the TE.

You can see the CPU cut blocking on the outside in both vids though.

Animations are a big part of the game. They are half of the gameplay.
