NCAA Football 10 News Post

EA Sports have just posted another NCAA Football 10 blog. This one covers custom conferences.

Quote:
"Hey Everybody, I’m Ben Haumiller and I’m a designer on the NCAA Football series. I’ve been at Tiburon since 2000, starting out as a tester in QA, and I’ve been a member of the NCAA Football design team since NCAA 06. Since joining the team I’ve primary worked on our career modes (Dynasty, Campus Legend, etc.) our Online features, as well as a lot of the features you’ll find when checking out the My NCAA and Team Management sections of the Main Menu . You would be hard pressed to find a more passionate college football fan than myself, so working on the NCAA Football series has been a dream come true.

On NCAA Football 09 I was the designer for what had been long considered the “Holy Grail of NCAA features”, Online Dynasty. I couldn’t have been more excited to get this feature into the game. Dynasty is without a doubt my favorite feature in any sports game, and bringing that experience online brought a tremendous amount of life into an already great game mode. Based on the feedback from the community I was not the only one that was able to resurrect gaming rivalries with old college roommates that now live on the other side of the country, increase my desire to sign the recruits in the nation for no other reason than to force the other dynasty members to settle for a 3 star prospect, and feeling the pressure of knowing the result of your head to head game will mean the difference between a BCS berth or finishing your season in December."

I don't think it is that big of a deal, but O will see if I get annoyed with the wrong conference logos.

Besides, not every single D 1-A team has their conference logo on their field.

Realism isn't everything. If it were, then this feature would be entirely bad because swapping teams in and out of conferences like this feature allows is not realistic. What this feature is is very practical. It opens up an option that improves the online dynasty experience for a lot of people tremendously.

It's not ridiculous to want the conference field logos to be correct. What is ridiculous is to complain about it in such as way as though they should not have even bothered with custom conferences unless they made sure the field logos were correct.

It's impossible for EA to please everyone, and they certainly don't please me all the time, but people should be thanking them for the custom conferences feature, not being whiny sourpusses about it.

As a user, I understand the general sentiment of being frustrated that things don't seem to be done 100%. But as a software engineer by trade, I also understand that you have to make choices and sacrifices in a project. Just because something is technically feasible and seemingly easy to implement does not mean it is worth taking the time away from other things. And believe me, no feature is as easy to implement as it seems.

The bottom line is that the conference field logos issue is a fit and finish issue. That is never as important as a functionality issue, or data loss, or most other types of issues. NCAA has enough functionality glitches and data loss problems without further impairing their ability to fix them by trying to please everyone's standards of realism. OMT points it out all the time, but it can't be stressed enough. Those feature requests threads are enormous, and if you asked 100 people for their top 3 wishes, you would get 100 different answers. Development time is limited. Just to get the custom conferences feature in at all is a win for us.

it is realistic because it happens all the time. do you not follow college football? the recent ACC raid and WKU into the Sunbelt to name a couple. and again it's only practical to you because it fits the way YOU game. just as many people play offline and the feature is in for both so i'm tired of hearing how great is only for OD

i haven't read one quote making that claim. I simply say that without the changing logos the feature has very little value for me. and it's not as if people are starting multiple threads about the topic. they are only giving feedback on the new feature within the feature's thread which is why we have these boards in the first place.

thank them for bringing back a feature from old gen and doing it half way? okay sure thanks EA, and again no one here is whining. if EA didn't want our feedback they wouldn't start threads to introduce "new" features so if people discussing the positives and negatives of the feature annoys you than i suggest you stop coming here.

and i can appreciate that, but frustration comes from the fact that the devs basically tell us that the tech exists in the game, but then really never give an answer as to why it didn't make it into this feature.

I challenge you to find one gamer or CFB fan who thinks that a school changing conferences wouldn't change the field/uniform logos if they had them in play. with some other features i would agree that it's difficult to settle on something everyone can agree on, but with this feature there is no grey room. it maybe a win for you, but for many it's neither a win or loss because it's not functional and they won't use it because realism would be lost from game.

Yes Trev, it is a win, but lets be honest, in this day in age of gaming online is where everyone is focusing. To a offline player this feature is haf done, to a online feature this is a nice addition

My final comment on this issue. It's amazing to me that you (last two posters above) can call the feature "halfway done" when the only thing that is apparently missing is field conference logos for the moved teams. IMO that's like calling a newly-built house halfway done, when all it needs is paint! Sure, the technology is there to paint the house and sooner or later you've got to paint it, but the house is still useful (and far more than halfway done), without it!

that's cool man if it's not a big deal to you then no worries. and this really isn't an argument i'm just saying that i'm happy for the ODers who this will help, but for me personally it's basically a wasted feature because you can't do it realisitcally and by realistic i mean how it would look if it happened in the real world not that does happen all the time.

This was never a feature in old gen. You could never place an FBS team in a different conference in old gen. You could only replace an FBS team with an FCS team or a created team.
