MLB 2K9 News Post

March 3, 2009 was supposed to be a day of triumph for 2K Sports. The final chapter in a three-year development cycle that started with MLB 2K7.

Each new edition was to be another layer of bricks built upon the initial foundation, remaking the baseball video-game genre as we knew it. MLB 2K9 was to be the shining star at the top of a glorious skyscraper of baseball awesomeness.

As they say, "the best laid plans of mice and men."

Good review, hit on the positives and negatives more than the other sites.

Good job.

Very Fair review Chris. I wish you would have talked a little about the Inside Edge Feature, especially for Pitching. Personally I think VC did a good job with it this year. If you use it & follow the percentages most of time, you will get some pretty good results

Actually Dave Branda (aka BlyGilmore) wrote the review man.

I'm hoping all of the mediocre reviews help me move up in the queue on Goozex to get this game. I started at 14th and already moved up to 12 (without any games being traded).

How does everyone else feel about Dave's comment that the game feels more like softball than baseball?

No real problems with the review on this side of the connection.

I just have one question, though: what do you mean by "player models?" I'm assuming you're referring to the whole package (proportions, jersey detail, faces, tones and animations, etc.). Because you see, whenever I refer to "player models," I'm talking about the skeletal body only. I'm talking about the proportion of the player.

So if I revise the wording from "player models" to "player proportions," how would you say those fare?

SerialMike, I used your mods for High Heat. Good to see you back in cyberspace!

Haha, from what little bit I played of MLB 2K9 (literally two games) I would attest to most of the points made and the score. Not like I played it enough to give a review of my own, but MLB 2K9 is so far behind The Show it's not even funny. We're talking NBA LIve 06 compared to NBA 2K6 separation levels here.

Ah, I do remember seeing you over at theperfectgame.net. I've been on there the last couple of years to get Pudge's rosters since I've been playing HH2004. This year I'm finally letting go of HH...

End of thread hijack. Sorry.

Player models are typically described using an all of the above approach like you described initially (jerseys, details, etc.) by most all people writing at OS (and probably industrywide). So hope that clears that up

Can someone post the review in the thread because I can't access the link thanks to my stupid work cpu and websense.

Good review, except for the pitching controls. Uninspired? Compared to what?

Would've like to see you touch more on the fielding gaffes too. Of all the problems from this game, it is the single most frustrating IMO.

IMO you can't review games based on what sliders may or may not do. Not everybody wants to sit there for hours fiddling with sliders trying to figure out what works - and IMO they shouldn't be expected to.

Besides, sliders should be for tweaking game play. IMO gamers shouldn't be counting on sliders to fix game play.

You should be getting at least decent game play right out of the box.

Good review, Chris. 2k is certainly making strides in the right direction with this game, but still has some work to do.

As someone who creates sliders for the Community, I totally agree with you on this.

LOL, he's never worked for any gaming company. Not sure where you got that or what you are trying to accomplish there (actually I do) but the closest he's come to working for EA was running DSM and being one of the guys here at OS.

Great post and tremendous points well stated. All I can say to YOU 2k is, well....at least the game looks good in screenshots. Well, not that good actually. But hey, there is always next year right? And you still have the license, so there's that -
