Playstation.Blog has posted another MLB 09 The Show blog. This one covers Online Season Leagues and Improvements.

"The draft system rivals that of any fantasy sports system. It allows from 6-30 players to hold a FULL LIVE Draft, with the ability to set your draft day/time, pick timer/length, chat (and harass), view the Player Card/stats of available players, view the Player Card stats of other users in your league drafting. Another integral part of the draft system is the ability to set you draft queue. No matter how much planning you do, there’s always a chance you can’t physically be at your draft, or you may not be able to stay for the entire draft."

I hope the restrictions on starting a league have been loosened this year.

Yes it still takes time off of your 5 minutes. We just you the ability to make all your adjustments on the fly no need to hit pause anymore.

Nope and your right it does handicap leagues by not having this feature. 2010

If i can just group together some concerns here, for my own knowledge as we are going to be running a league/leagues for the first time:
  1. No custom camera angles
  2. No individual player stat tracking i.e. the game dosent count how many HR A-Rod has hit etc
  3. No enforced pitch rotations
  4. Not able to replace an inactive league member
  5. Unsure on ingame lag
Whilst not ideal, those are not that 'bad' to have as your bad points for an online option.

Camera angles is a pain... but its workable as you get used to it. Points 2 & 3 can be worked outside of the game if you wish to track them.

Point 4 is an annoyance (i assume you can force forfeit their games if you need to?)

5 is up in the air on most games... they have fixed the framerate problems so thats a plus, im sure this feature has had solid testing as adding the 'fluff' to the Online Leagues is pointless if its unplayable.

Thanks for the info

  • SportsCast Live now with Live Play-by-play audio while viewing a game (fka View Game Status)
  • Set Lineups in Online Season Leagues (vs. RHP, LHP)
  • Ping indicator in Team Select screen, before entering an online game
  • New Legend skill level, requiring a user to reach 4500 points
  • 4 options for Guess Pitch settings (Default, Classic 1/4, Classic 1/6, No Feedback)
  • Addition of 30 sec for each extra inning
  • Square to forfeit opponent instead of X (not allowing accidental forfeit)
  • Ability to select a jersey in an online game
  • Ability to mound visit
  • Access to Quick menu (up on D-pad)
  • Online steals addressed
  • Quick pitch exploit addressed with a delay
  • Allow both players to view the replay when one player enters replay mode via pause menu
  • No pausing when ball is hit in play
  • Persistent Chat - ability to maintain a seat and interaction in a game room, even after leaving. This is perfect for League Chat rooms
  • Online Player Options in far more areas in the SportConnect Lobby. This is the pop-up that allows for a Challenge, Send IM, Invite to Buddy, SportCast Live, etc.
These all are great i can't wait one more week as for online leagues i don't really play them anyway

This has been asked multiple times, but no one seems to want to answer some tough questions. Is there in-game chatting? Is it like last year with the L3? If so, it turns off so much its better not to even try to use it. Secondly, can you track individual stats in on-line leagues?? I would think this is 10x more important than FANTASY drafts. I am not ripping anyone, but if you want fantasy drafts play real fantasy baseball. I want guys that want to take "real" teams and play like the MLB schedule is. I love MLB the Show, but on-line is where my bread and butter is here. My buddies all live hundreds of miles away. I want a live chat option that works in game, ability to keep season stats in online leagues, and for the Show to be as good as the hype.

What does anyone have on these tough questions???? Lets hope good news. I love the show, brought 5 new old buddies on board from all over IN, OH, and MI, they all bought PS3's for this game to play leagues online. Please let me tell them its good news on these subjects!!!!

Thanks for the hard work SCEA. Its appreciated.

Right there with you KJ. I would like someone to answer the in game chatting too because I have friends all throughout New England who play this game. The L3 button is just useless. It would make more sense to move it over to R3 since you bare use that button and how about a mic indicator on the screen?

# 49 green94 @ 02/24/09 02:10 PM
Regardless on how many teams you fill, does the CPU use the rest of them?

# 50 dmbfan1970 @ 02/24/09 04:12 PM
I'm gonna start chanting.

We want MIC. We want MIC. We want MIC...

Crossing fingers from what dev said that there is still more to come in a blog about new features/improvements to online play. So maybe we will still hear about MIC improvement. Course it isn't gonna matter when we can find out ourselves in only 1 week's time now!

Question 1: In the online leagues, will there be a waiting period like last year before we can start making leagues?
It’s up to us. We can turn it on or off at the server with the click of a button. The purpose of it initially was to prevent hundreds of leagues from being created by users, just because they can :-). The goal was to prevent a clutter of stale league by deadbeat commissioners. Depending on what the community says, we can have it on or off at ship, or even turn it off down the road. YOU TELL ME!

Quote:
Question 2: Can I make more than one League?
The goal is to have each commissioner focus on one league. We know there are some dedicated folks out there, but just one League per commissioner.

Quote:
Question 3: Can I delete my league if it fails? I hate how if you start a league, You have to post that its failing on the message boards.
If your league fails, sent a feedback with the subject of “please disband league” and the league name. It should be disband asap (depending on traffic, hours or possibly a day or two). You must be the commissioner of the league to request this. You can still use the Message Board method, if you like.

Is there in-game chatting?
You can chat both via USB/bluetooth keyboard and/or USB/Bluetoth headset chat.

Secondly, can you track individual stats in on-line leagues?

Individual user stats are fully tracked within the league. You can see how your stats match up against anyone else in the league. MLB specific player stats will

If this makes the online experience better, than I have no problems waiting. For instance, I know the first 2-weeks were when I had the most lag online. I believe this issue was slowly corrected over those 2-weeks with the many SCEA 'server down' messages that went on late in the night to correct this. To that effect, I would rather wait until online play is tweaked (during those 2-weeks) so that when the leagues open up expectation on server load is known and we have things running smooth.

I don't have any hope for this mode. It's nice that way, because I can only be pleasantly surprised.

# 54 sa012 @ 02/24/09 05:32 PM
You can chat both via USB/bluetooth keyboard and/or USB/Bluetoth headset chat.

Can you explain more? Is it open mic or do you both still have to press L3.

Thank you

Thanks for asking this again.....But, because they will not answer the portion about specific individual player stats being tracked, it's quite obvious this unlike the 2K game, is NOT in. I could care less if I as the user have hit more homeruns team wise than everyone else, I want to be able to track if my clean-up hitter is leading the league in homeruns etc..........Maybe next year I guess..

Repy: Silence is the sound

you get it Jim and Knight, I played nice for 2 years and nice got no response and I highly doubt me being harsh will either, so what do I have to lose.

I never said who cares about on line I said who cares more bs.
The thing is, you don't actually know what you're talking about. Year 1 games would get the "traffic delay" sign and they would drop for no reason at all. That's been fixed. People used to disconnect at will and not suffer losses...that's been fixed.

You make it sound like nothing at all has changed, but you're wrong.

I guess that is my thought too, but I ALSO COULD CARE LESS about MY individual stats!!! I want to know where does my leadoff guy guy compare in SB's (or whatever) vs all my other buddies guys. Can someone confirm if Individual player stats for online season leagues.

Again...they DO NOT TRACK INDIVIDUAL Major League Player stats in online leagues....EVERYTIME your players come to bat, the stat overlay will read your players stats from last year. It really is unbelievable since season stats like this have been tracked all the way back to Baseball Stars on the NES in terms of "season" play......Baseball is built around individual player stats and for SCEA not to have it in this good a game, no excuse and poor.

Get over it and move past this; consistently littering the boards with your negativity (same subject + multiple posts) does the community no good.

Like the rest of us, put your suggestions for SCEA into the appropriate thread (future game enhancements).

Thanks Ran for your helpful advice.....Not being negative, simply truthful. Baseball is built on STATS and stat tracking.....Games that track them do well, those that do not are not 2K9....I, like everyone else here can and will continue to leave my opinions. You love everything about the game, great. I do not share your sentiments. I will not subscribe to a web site to track online league stats when the game should do it for us. Thanks again for your opinion though. That's what these boards are for.
