MLB 2K9 News Post

Spring Training has begun, and with it comes the release of the newest versions of the baseball video games. The two major games releasing in early March are Sony’s MLB 09: The Show and Visual Concepts’ Major League Baseball 2K9. This past weekend, 2K Sports lifted the media restriction on gameplay videos for its newest baseball game, and various sites have since released a number of gameplay videos for people to view.

After watching all of the videos that have been released, it is apparent that Visual Concepts has improved the game drastically this year. But, while there are many positives to be derived from the gameplay videos, the game is not yet perfect. With that being said, here are a few positives and negatives I have noticed in the beta videos of MLB 2K9.

It's not praising or bashing the game...lol

I wonder if some here have stock in 2K or a rival company based on the emotional responses every word about this game generates. Also, for those inferring OS is "above" this, you're wrong. They write opinion pieces all the time...lol. This is not a review or preview...just an article. Come back in from the ledge...it's nice and warm
Was going to post something similar to this. We usually plan articles a week or two in advance, so Jack has been planning on writing an article like this for awhile, it's not like we're breaking new ground with this piece as we've done many similar pieces a couple weeks before release for many titles.

Also, I'm almost certain Jack or someone else is doing a piece similar to this for The Show next week....so it's not like we're only covering one game

Thanks for the comments though guys!

I can't believe that my personal biggest "What's Not" item was not discussed here: The fact that the CPU swings at every single pitch that is in the strike zone.

Nice read, didn't sway me at all, as none of the negatives were the game killing type. Hopefully those few "Nots" are fixed in the retail version, but all in all still sounds like a terrific game of baseball to look forward to.

Eh. Visual Concepts always seems to put out a good product. I had both MLB The Show last year and MLB 2K8 and to this day I still play MLB 2k8. I know 2k8 has alot of bugs, but The Show's announcers irritate the hell outa me. If I hear "what r u waiting for Amigo?" one more time I'm go nuts. After playing the new demo and feeling like the gameplay and announcers are all unchanged, I have no reason to buy The Show this year. You can see how much more fun of a game 2k9 is going to be this year just by looking at the videos. And I'm a little confussed as to why the bat contact sounds so off. Acording to what I've read from the developers on the 2k forums, they actually recorded a number of live batting sounds for this years game and the response has been good. 2k9 ownes The Show this year.

How old are you? 12? You probably just want an action packed, arcade game. You can't even say 2k9 is better than the show because there is no way that could ever happen. You don't even know what baseball is.

Give it a rest man. He is entitled to his opinion. Don't go insulting him because he has a different opinion or taste in games than you do.
