News Post

So today I checked out the game, played it, talked with developers etc. etc.

I won't get into all the details here, but basically I just want to keep you guys in the loop. Tomorrow there will be a preview up on the site, and I also have about 40 minutes of developer interviews that I plan on transcribing -- the voice quality is too bad to just put it up in audio form. I'll be cutting some stuff and all that, but I want to get that up maybe by Friday, but certainly by Monday.

In that interview there will be talk about a lot of stuff, the only notable exception being Franchise mode -- I didn't talk to any franchise people (sorry). But hey, the community folks are going down there next week so you should hear plenty about all that from them.

Also, I'm hesitant to do what I usually do after checking out a game, and that is open up a Q&A thread with you all. I say that because since community folks are going down there next week I don't want to steal their thunder. So what I will do is next week -- once those guys have seen the game -- I'll chime in and answer/comment on questions and so forth, which I think is a good middle ground.

Finally, there will also be a quick interview with Pedroia posted on the site. It's nothing major at all since I always assume you guys want to hear from the devs and hear about gameplay stuff rather than what the athletes have to say (sorry athletes, no offense). So I just had a little fun with him by asking him some random questions.

Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know what is up.

I hope they do Fireworks at The Cell. That has been a staple of the White Sox since forever.

What did you notice that was the biggest change from last years game to this one? Graphics, gameplay or neither?

I think you and I have been asking for this since last year! I hope they are in, fireworks that is, it adds so much to the HR celebrations. Being a White Sox fan it is tough to swallow that when I hit a HR nothing happens... But I understand every park doesn't have it and it may not be a top priority.

Although I did download some fireworks .mp3's so I'm set if they didn't include them.... no visuals just the audio!

lol...anyway, glad that you are giving us some info

Seriously, though, take the thunder away from the guys going. Why should the rest of the site be deprived of info. Their reward is actually playing the game.

ok...here are my questions...they are general and yes I realized you only played it for a short time

1. Is this game feel better, equal or less than 08
2. Has there been any significant gameplay changes that you noticed (ie pitching controls, batting controls, hitting the cutoff man, pickoffs etc.)
3. Did you notice a significant increase in animations
4. Did hitting, feilding or pitching "feel" different in anyway and if so...is it better, worse or just different?

Anyway, not looking for a long answer to any of these...yes or no for any would be awsome.

Cant wait to play
I will say most of your questions will probably be answered in Chase's preview...anyone else wanting to ask anything too serious should probably just hold off until the preview is posted...we'll all probably know a lot more within a few hours anyways

Hahah, thats a good idea. I was thinking about adding in a "HE GONE!" audio clip if they allow us to after a strikeout.

08 had real managers so u have nothing to worry about.. it would be pretty cool if it had the real umps in the game, voices and all, like CB Buckner and his animated punchout gestures lol.

Can't wait to read the preview, I'm itching for the demo release.

Look forward to reading your preview.

Just want to say thanks to all the guys that put their time and effort into making things like this happen. Thank you.

So Chase I'm gonna assume that they haven't made any changes to the throwing when you're fielding the ball? The same "press button and sit back and watch the fielder throw to the base" method has gotten pretty outdated over the years.

It is still based around pressing a button to gauge the throw, yes.

You mentioned a little about the shadowing, how is the progressive lighting from twilight to night for evening games?

# 59 rock85 @ 01/21/09 11:49 PM
How were the pitching motion's were they improved from last year. In your Yankee's game who were you using while pitching. Thanks can't wait for your preview. Hopefully we will get some news when the demo will drop

Chase,
When you hit your home-run did they show the flight of the ball?

Whats your impression?

Thanks...

Scooter...
