UFC 2009 Undisputed News Post

IGN has posted their hands-on preview of UFC 2009 Undisputed.

"Still, the first thing that caught our eye was just how incredibly true-to-life the fighters looked and how authentic the game's presentation felt. We played the three biggest fights on the UFC 92: The Ultimate 2008 card, beginning with the main event, Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin versus Sugar Rashad Evans."

From what I see Fight Night Round 4 should be very scared...I mean very! They better hope THQ doesn't make a boxing game....hmmmm

double posting because I already want more

"throwing power punches versus jabs and the like – the game will automatically throw the appropriate punch based on your fighter's current stamina, his range to his opponent, and that opponent's stamina and movement, and the results will vary accordingly. Land a kick flush to the chin of an onrushing opponent and he'll likely be left flat on his back counting the lights. "

appetite is officially insatiable for this game.

The Biggest thing i was worried about was gameplay, but from what I have read and seen, I think I am going to be very Happy.

I really hope this game becomes a yearly franchise, because there is so much they can do with game.

this game sounds truly amazing. 80 fighters with 16 in each weight class? I cannot wait for spring to arrive.

The only thing now that I'm curious about is how a career/season is handled in this game.

UFC's Ultimate Fighter: its not a matter of if, But when. I expect a bare bones career mode for O9 but there is so much they can do with the UFC brand. If THQ can really nail the gameplay( which it looks they did) this could be one of the best sport franchises.

I think I may buy some stock in THQ

Like you say, over time they could have a great career type mode.

Create a fighter (or use an existing), and then go through the Ultimate Fighter "show"...they could have 'training' sequences (or not) and then the fights. If you lose, you're more a prelim PPV fighter to start, and you have to earn your way back. If you end up winning TUF then you're a bit higher and then fight for a title shot.

If they can come up with a way to have a pool of fighters in each weight class, and come up with monthly PPV's where the "right" fights are made, it's a mode that could go on forever. I'd be fine with no retiring and whatnot, and I wouldn't expect cutting weight or moving between weight classes to factor in for a couple years. There's a lot of ways they can go with this!

I haven't seen anyone mention this: During UFC 92, there was a promo for the game and it said "Available May". First I've heard of any release date so far (besides Q1 2009)

If it was coming out in May I'd be going nuts, but I heard it'll get delayed.

On Gamestop.com it says preorders ship May 19th. Hopefully that date sticks because I'm salivating for this game.

This is by FAR FAR FAR my most wanted game of 2009.

Some suggestions:

1. It would be nice to see different stances, different punches and kicks, different submissions, different takedowns and not only because of stamina or possition but because of fighting styles and signature moves. It wouldnt matter how great or accurate the player models are (as they seem to be) if they all play, fight or move the same.

2. It would be great to have a separate lobby on live to play original vs original and created vs created, that way all the cheaters that always plague those type of games online would only face their maxed out players against each other.

3. It would be awsome to have some kind of online tourney or league by weight classes, were you select 1 of the 16 players and batlle each other and the one with the most wins get the championship. And after that, use a raking system that puts a scaling order to all players (wins move you up, losses move you down) and you have to be on the top 3 to face the champ (wich can decide who to face of those 3, until he has no choice).
