UGO has posted their preview of MLB '09: The Show.

"It’s probably best to get this out of the way from the outset: I am not a sports guy and if I were, baseball would still rank pretty low among my interests. This is important because I’m about to fill you readers in on preview time spent with Sony’s PlayStation 3-exclusive baseball sim MLB 09: The Show. And while it’s not going to change the opinions of those who prefer other sports or no sports at all, the 2009 edition of The Show looks as though it will offer a deeper, more fulfilling simulation than ever before, with the added benefit of amped up visuals and player-tailored features."

Waivers
Option years for minor leaguers

And I'll be happy as can be.

The new Yankee Stadium looks amazing.

Info looks good, I hope the new visuals got rid of the T-Rex arms on each player. The custom crowd chants has a ton of potential, though the article says you need to do it with a mic - I wonder if you can load MP3's on to your PS3 and do it that way as well.

Day/night progression is going to be a very big welcome too, that adds a lot to the game.

Actually, the dimensions are exactly the same as the old stadium and they kept the Facade (sp?) that goes around the stadium. Being a Yankees fan I am biased, but I think it looks great and can't wait to watch a few games there.

They kept the on field dimensions and the facade makes a triumphant return. The seating layout is different (deck arrangements), the scoreboards are different, the amenities..man, the amenities and the exterior is completely different- although a throwback to the old (not current) Yankee stadium. If you've ever been to the old stadium, even little things like having wider seats with cup holders and leg room make a huge difference. Huge overhaul.

me either. I think there are a list of other things much more important.

Also, I wish people would quit comparing The Show to MVP. '07 & '08 were light years ahead of MVP and '09 will probably be even better. If anyone can play MVP '05 and then play the Show '08 and even compare the two, well, I think you are nuts. I'll get off my soap box, but I don't think there is any comparison other than the fact they were both great for their time, but MVP does not hold up today. You can tell people that have not played the SCEA series because they keep talking about MVP. Glad to have you guys aboard, but make a trip to Blockbuster and rent '08, it will make you forget about mvp.

This is the best time of the year! The SCEA people can't be beat!
The beauty of it all is this game is the best sports game ever and getting better every year!

Information should be coming at a decent pace from here on out.
Looks like our "Team SCEA" has been burning the midnight oil.

Does the gathering fans dressing according to weather conditions mean SCEA included WEATHER CONDITIONS in 09'? a BIG WOW if that's true. If not there's plenty of other offerings that got my interest.

One thing to be excited about is Transitional Lighting effects. This will bring the feeling of time passing.

This game is opening up to us creative types whose goal is to create our own "Field of Dreams" approach.

I'm going to try to interject into the music walk-up section, my collection of "Text to Speech" Old Time Ball-Players first names nicknames and last names.

If Musial isn't on the Name Database List this year I will experiment with my Text to Speech rendition: Now Batting number 6 Stan "The Man" Musial.

Like I've said before please offer a microphone with an echo feature so we can call any name in the history of baseball as the PA announcer.

Another thought,
can someone with a great voice make an audio collection with echo of all the players in Baseball History? Can these MP3's be available as a download? These MP3's could fit into the Music walk up and we could adjust to 0 the Default PA sound offered ...then inject the MP3' names!

I hope I explained this idea so it can be understood...

Can't wait...
Scooter...

T-Rex arms are a big deal. Took me a long while to ignore them.

Mike, I think with all the hundreds of things you've listed as wanting changed, you are going to have that disappointed emoticon out a lot. The rest of us will enjoy, lol.

I tried out MVP PC fully modded a few weeks ago. Absolutely loved that game, but time to move on.

Same here. I decided to try my PC version fully modded, and wow, lets just say it did not age well. And that part of nostalgia was the main thing we all hang onto.

Nostalgia can be a hell of a thing people. Remember that.

Man...all this stuff is great...With plans to create 20 second clips of most if not all of the players walk up music going on in another thread, we will all be busy and this should hopefully make the time until the game drops go a lot quicker.

Preview sounds awesome. Even if the only things that get added are day/night progression and weather then I'll be very happy. Is it March yet?

Like I said on many occasions, give me authentic pitching motions/deliveries of most or all of the big name pitchers and I'll be one happy camper. When I'm up at bat, I want to feel like I'm truly facing a real life counterpart on the hill.

I would also like the pitch physics to be adjusted. I thought the sinkers and two-seamers didn't move enough and the breaking balls really didn't have there true snap/spin to them. It would be nice when facing Tim Lincecum or Roy Halladay that they have a consistant "hammer". Now when facing someone like Manny Delcarmen (good curve but inconsistant) he'll throw some good one's but also throw some hangers up there as well. Sinkerballers like Webb, Lowe, Wang should really have that boring, late action on their sinker. I thought last year that those pitches were too flat and really didn't do justice to the nastiness of those pitches.

Add in a more responsive/user controlled defensive system while you're at it too and you have baseball perfection on a disc.

Kolbe & Chris...your team is second to none in the sports gaming industry. Thanks for always listening and I'm sure it'll be another HOMERUN this year.

Bronk

I didn't read all of the comments on here so excuse me if it's been asked but are we really gonna be able to do voiced introductions of the batters? If so, how. Getting the walk up music from the ps3 I get but I'm clueless as to how this would work.
