one thing i hope they fix in the actual game is the reversal system. when playing, (especially against another player) there are just too many reversals. it dont matter what the persons Technique rating is. its just one reversal after another and i hate that.

especially when im faceing someone good like my brother or even the cpu, i can never do any strong grapples. my offense is just strikes, quick grapples, and turnbuckle moves. i hate that.

HHH vs. HBK was a major WTF. 4 sledgehammer shots and a pedigree, him in red on torso and head, kicks out. Further beating with sledgehammer, sig spinebuster, pedigree,no sells. Beaten with chair,3 more pedigrees,2 more spinebusters,1 more pedigree through a table, tossed in ring and gets up right away with no chance to pin. End up outside the ring again after some cool punch combo thing,3 more sledgehammer beatings, another spinebuster and 3 more pedigrees,I get back in the ring and it seemed he refused to come back,he stood out there appearing to wipe blood from his eyes in an infinte loop. I came out and he started moving again so I got back in the ring. Then he stood out there holding his back. I went out threw him back in,more sledgehammerness and another pedigree and finally winning.
WTF???

u playing vs cpu or a real person?

Played the demo a few times now, it's interesting but I'll be waiting for impressions/reviews before deciding. You do have to just destroy the CPU to get a pinfall from what I've seen so far. Haven't played a smackdown game in a couple years and was starting to get excited about this one but if it's going to take atleast 3 or 4 finishers to win a match that'll be pretty disappointing.
Got the wrestling bug again for some reason, was a diehard fan when I was growing up back in the 90's and early 2000 but stopped watching completely a few years ago. Now I'm kind of interested again but there's just way to many guys I don't know and look like complete scrubs but their in main story lines and fighting for belts. What the hell is a Miz and why are he and John Morrison fighting DX tomorrow is that the dude from real world road rules...WTF!! Might try and catch RAW tomorrow hoping that'll be a big episode and catch me up on who some of these dudes are.

Cool thanks for the rundown, man it's like WWE just fell off a cliff since it's glory days, ex olympians and football players back in the day and now it's a bunch of jokers from reality shows or guys that have been around since I first started watching. I shouldn't really mock it since I haven't really watched it in a couple years(so I really don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to anyone who started after 2002 or so) but I think there was a reason I stopped watching.

I actually enjoyed this. The arguing with the ref is completely horrible though. It goes to some sort of cutscene, the crowd cuts out and you hear the ref clearly. Who in their right mind thought this was good?

What? They still have this stop the action cut scenes in game. I hated it in the game last time. Pushing the ref, getting weapons in the ECW match, going to crowd would all stop the gameplay because one player is doing something random and pointless.

I don't know about the others, but the arguing is beyond stupid.

They kick out, and while you're getting up, if you press triangle the screen cuts, repositions you in a way that you weren't when you hit the triangle, has you get up and start complaining to the ref.

It looks so terrible and out of place in the game.

I'm sure the others are in as well and more probably too.

The Smackdown series has declined so much since the PS2 days, I just don't understand.

Last year they took out manual switching and I just read they didn't bring it back but improved the automatic one? WTH? Why even take that out. If I want to focus on someone else, I should be able to and not have the AI dictate when is the best time to focus.

Argh, it's times like this that I wish I had Gamefly! I've had the past to SDVRs for 360 and while they ultimately fall flat, I do like me a wrasslin' game to play when I need a break from sports gaming. I wonder if online will be better, as I rarely had a good experience (mostly laggy) in the past...

It seemed to have the best pacing of any SDvR game yet. But it does feel a bit... "been there, done that" from the demo alone.

I absolutely love the way signature moves/finishers work. Was '08 like that? Or is that new to '09?

I may pick up '08 then for cheap if they have the same implementation.

08 had very good animations-and IMO that is where it ended. It did play better (smoother transitions) than 07-but-The roster was bare bones/the AI was waaay too easy to beat for me, even on the harder levels with slider adjustments. The story was a joke from what I've been told. I don't play season mode for the most part though.
I'd read up some more and get others thoughts before pulling the trigger on 08. If you have a 360, I'd suggest 07 instead-bigger roster and better gameplay. I'll even say that the PS2 version for 07 was better than next gen 08.

Thanks, coffee.

Maybe I'll do that. I'm not as big a wrestling fan as I once was... nowhere close, actually, but a good game is a good game.

Maybe I'll see if I can pick up '09 used in a few months. I just really like the fact that you have to set up your finisher with a sig move first. Really adds to the pacing of a real wrestling match you'd see on TV.

I know one of the complaints for this series has always been the lack of strength by the finishers... I think that's a fair assessment here as well. However... I recall the SDvR series having the ability to configure how quickly the move bar fills up... and if you set t his year's copy on the slowest then I think you could really have some fun with this game.

Some of the move decisions always have me scratching my head. Shawn Michael's fig. 4 leglock finisher is laughable. He puts it on, humps the air once and then it's over. It's a completely joke.

Why not make it interactive? Have the wrestler's screaming, trying to get to the ropes... pounding the mat. You know, like an actual submission maneuver. Strange concept, I know.

Well the moves are editable Pared.....
I have the game, ill be back in a min..

# 35 Pared @ 11/08/08 12:16 PM
Have you played it at all?

I know they are editable but I would think they aren't online.

# 36 The 24th Letter @ 11/08/08 03:12 PM
Oh, ok I didnt touch online w\ SVR2008.....but I thought you could play w\ modified characters....could be wrong....

From the 30 minutes I put in the game I have really enjoyed it...I dont think my standards are as high when it comes to wrestling games though so some may disagree...

I dont expect a "sim" wrestling match, and I feel like well probably NEVER get that in a wrestling game lol

The biggest thing that stands out to me so far is the lack of clipping that was in 08.....ill be back w\ more impressions, i havent been able to play as much as I wanted to..
