Madden 09 News Post

Madden's online modes could learn a lot from games like SOCOM. Imagine a Madden online mode where teamwork was a hugely important key to winning with your team online. David Johnson has, and shows us some important lessons Madden could learn from SOCOM.

That definitely would be a dream come through...I cant imagine how much fun it would be to be the shutdown corner the whole game trying to keep Randy Moss locked down the whole game. Or be the offensive lineman and come up with a key block.

guys lets be honest here, this crap will never be put into the game. Hell they can't even fix the franchise or suction cup blocking that have plagued this game for the past 4 years

Play along with me and imagine the translation to Madden here. 4th and Goal, down by four, late in the 4th quarter, and there are 11 players meeting in the offensive playcalling screen for the allotted 40 seconds; there's also 11 players meeting in the defensive playcalling screen for the same period of time. Both sides are attempting to come up with a play that will win the game for their respective sides.

Football by committee? No thanks.

I know what the first poster is saying. Played some 11 vs 11 football today with some friends. Everyone wanted to be receiver. I played Runningblock so our Quaterback could throw the ball, also played corner on my friend who was the best athlete out there. I would love to be able to do that on a football game. Just play with your buddies and work a strategy.

the problem with this concept is that most folks would only want to play the key positions. I cant imagine there are many folks out there that would want to play an entire online game as an offensive lineman, etc.

and the 32-50 clanmates on line playing a game would not be enjoyable because that requires subs and I doubt most folks would want to be on the side lines.

I also think most folks don't know enough about Blocking schemes and Defensive schemes required in football to make an 11 on 11 online experience enjoyable.

It doesn't have to be 11 on 11. It could be 5 on 5 or something. Even that would be a blast. While offense would be cool, I think defense would be amazing. Setting up blitzes, coverages, etc.

I think our best hope for this is another company making it without licenses. They could make the entire focus of the game on the online aspect. It would be nice in Madden, but honestly they still haven't fixed the suction blocking 20 years into the franchise.

I would be fine with playing O/D line the whole game if they could make it more complex than just trying 2 stay on your blocks the whole time.
mayb add some different moves you can perform, blocking schemes, and make agility and strength ratings matter when you pull, pass block against guys like freeney, etc.

This is a great idea that has been said by many already. Having this capability would make it the best Madden ever, but would be too much work for a game released yearly. If console life cycles were longer, then maybe we would get a Madden that you could play a full 11 man team in a franchise. Think, what if all 32 teams had 11 players on it, playing an online franchise each week. At this point we don't have online franchises or leagues, we have online tournaments. We have a long way/wait before something like this comes around, even though it would completely re-establish the Madden series as the king of sports gaming.

What Madden could learn from SOCOM? Do you mean what Madden could learn from NHL, FIFA, and NBA Live?

I've got fifa and it has 10 v 10 online.

You have the captain choose formations and strategies.

So in Madden 11v11 online. You have a captain choose the plays.

Fifa lets you play as anybody via switching or a fixed player.

So I think 11 v 11 madden online CAN WORK.
