Backbreaker News Post

Gamespot has posted their hands-on preview of Backbreaker.

Quote:
"Consider Tackle Alley, a small feature which was the only playable part of Backbreaker today. Initially meant to be a simple tech demo, the feature grew in popularity, and not it will be included in the final game as an additional minigame. The idea is that you play as a lone runner, whose goal is to make it from one end of the field to the other, while avoiding a host of psychotic defenders looking to cripple you at every turn."

As much as i would love to see this game being released by the end of the year, i wouldn't be surprised at all if it was pushed back to 09 considering the only gameplay aspect they've shown us is Tackle Alley

They should start showing some gameplay now.

I remain skeptical about the actual game. Without any information about the kind of game we can expect, it sounds like they are just displaying their cool physics engine, maybe in the hopes that EA will buy it.

Head Coach on the BB forum said that they will "definitely not be selling BB to ea."

that's fine. However, sell it to us then. There's little to no in game footage, and tons of Euphoria hype, yet people are hailing it as the savior of the EA dominated football genre. Just having Euphoria physics doesn't make a game great, look at Star Wars Force Unleashed. That game has both Star Wars/LucasArts and Euphoria physics going for it, and impressions are that it could be average at best. GTA 4 would have sold well regardless.

2k even had a built in fan base from years of top notch competition to EA, that made the unlicensed APF2k8 a largely community hyped game. It still price dropped months after release and sold like 300k copies. If Backbreaker really is something special, and has a 2008 release, SHOW IT OFF!! Madden and NCAA are already out, so there's no danger in showing what they have at this point, supposedly months from release.

I want All Pro 2K10 with a pimped out Owner Mode. Backbreaker looks like it will lean too far in the Blitz camp for my tastes.

It's worth keeping an eye on this "project" (I refuse to call Backbreaker a "game" until we see anything suggesting that title would be appropriate). But I don't see how anyone can have high expectations for this game. The ONLY thing we've seen so far is a bunch of teaser trailers with last-gen player models and a few cool tackles.

This game is fast becoming the "Too Human" of sports titles. That's what happens when you keep going to the press hyping concepts, as opposed to working on a finished product.

is this game still coming out?

That link didn't tell me much, other than that there seems to be a message board for Backbreaker that nobody posted on since July 2008.

You can refer to my 8/25/08 post in this thread where I refused to treat this as a legitimate "game" project. This game and APF 2k8 were supposed to be the two football projects that would save football on 7th gen consoles, and both have been unmitigated failures, for different reasons.

I never saw anything that would suggest this was anything more than a physics project or "proof of concept" video. The best we could have realistically helped for anyway would've been a new NFL Blitz ripoff.

LOL BB be lucky to even sale half the copies madden 10 will this year. BB is not on real threat to EA madden. Never ever will be unless all of a sudden NFL gave the nfl rights to BB. Which would never happen. Because if NFL does why they are under contract with EA. Then Ea has a right to sue NFL for breaking their contract. So all BB will ever be is a arcadish type football game like blitz.

While I agree he's trolling, he's also right. If it comes to sales, BB will not be anywhere in the ballpark. Of course, I am not sure they really need to be. BB just needs to be profitable enough to make it a viable product.

Assuming it is indeed going to be released.

I don't think anyone could sensibly claim that Backbreaker will sell as many copies as Madden. I agree though that posting essentially the same thing in every BB thread is basically trolling, and should be punished with infractions in the same way that whoreing BB on the Madden board would be.

Ok if I seem to be trolling I am so sorry. But I was just trying to get my point accross. But point is I am just so sick of BB company lieing all the time. Me and the rest of the people have been waiting and waiting for a silver lining in all this. Hardly no pics are info are videos. I would more on BB side if the people behind BB would stop delaying it and just do something are another. But again. If I seem to be trolling which I ain't I am sorry.
