IGN has posted their preview of NBA Live 09 Online Team Play.

Quote:
"In 09, the Online Team Play experience is built around clubs, EA's way of organizing players. Clubs can have up to 50 players, and gain points for leaderboards by competing and winning as a unit. Any five players from a club can represent together, while players can leave their clubs to join others if they find that the life is better elsewhere."

Sounds great -- club system and the blogs, etc. will add a lot to the mode. Right now, it's basically 10 random guys (at this point in the year, it's the same 50 people playing OTP right now hah) that get thrown in a room and then proceed to bicker for position/player choice. Being able to keep a group together, scout players, and develop chemistry will add a lot to the overall experience. And the "Be a Pro" style evaluatio nat the end will make the mode evem more rewardign -- it's always nice to get a pat on the head for doing the mundane things like setting screens and rebounding... I'm always trying to be a "hutsle guy", getting boards, blocks, and playing defense. Can't wait.

Is there gonna be a league in 09 (OTP)?

I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere, and the logistics of having a league with 150 users would be daunting to say the least... not to mention getting the same 10 people online at the same time... It's enough of a struggle just to get a regular 30-team league to finish and get games played regularly... I can't even imagine what a headache it would be to run a 5-on-5 league. I wouldn't expect that as a feature. The clubs are probably the best solution to that -- they can still have leaderboards and whatnot, but not a true league system.

Yeah perhaps in the future. Also, it would be nice to have a clan system for next year's installment. Definitely excited with this one though.

I mean a clan/club consist of only 5 or 12 (like in real life team) people/players. Then add a clan practice gym to run some plays, mini games, etc.

All of that stat tracking and stuff is pretty amazing, BUT what about simple things like being able to kick a player on your team mid game because he/she is just fooling around or being able to add a player or replace a player mid game if someone disconnects or gets kicked ??

These to things are must to improve team play in my opinion.

Man, sign me up!

I wasnt really all that intrigued by this 10 player OTP thing at first, but it seems like it might be fleshed out pretty well. I like the idea of having overall ratings according to how you handle your position specific duties. Should really encourage people to play straight up and not cheese because if you do your rating will be low.

Live is looking REAL good this year fellas. Will the gameplay deliver?

I like the fact that as a GM, you can kick someone in your club if you don't want his game. (e.g. cheeser/ball hog/not sim player)

I agree with your comment about being able to kick someone mid-game. I think that if you put together a team, you should already have a group together that you can depend on that wouldn't do stupid things (as some people do in random games now). If I'm putting a team together, the thought of kicking someone mid-game shouldn't really be an issue. If nothing else, you just kick them off of your team permanently after the game is played. However, being able to replace someone (in case someone disconnects or gets kicked) is a decent idea. I'm not sure how that would work, though. Would you pause the game, jump out to another lobby for someone to join, then resume the game? I just can't picture how that could work effectively.

do I need the hard drive to be able to download OTP for nba live 08 or will a memory card be enough?
