Madden 09 News Post

Randomness Blog has posted an article analyzing the Madden curse and is there any truth behind it?

Quote:
"The Madden Curse - We’ve all heard about it. But does it hold any weight or is it all just sheer coincidence?

The Madden Curse basically goes like this, whoever is on the cover of Madden, that athlete will not have a good year on the football field. Some people really believe that the Madden Curse is real. Although most athletes acknowledge that being on the cover of Madden is an honor, none of them will speak on the legitimacy of the Curse.

Let’s take a look at those who have graced the cover of Madden."

Only offensive players are affected by the curse. Put Champ Bailey on the cover next year and you'll see.

The NFL is a league riddled with injuries and all sorts of misfortune.

I believe you'd have a pretty impossible time putting ANY player on the cover without them suffering some sort of injury or flukey misfortune during the season.

Even if you put a KICKER on the cover, chances are he'd miss a significant field goal during some game that costs his team a victory.

There's so many opportunities for misfortune or plain bad luck in the NFL, that to say it's a curse is just dumb.

Misfortune is part of the NFL.

Definitely true. Already happened this year to the Packers. They put Favre on the cover and all hell breaks loose in GB.

The curse has happened pretty much every year. Even Ray Lewis had a bad year the year he was on it. It was also the beginning of the end for Shaun Alexander.

According to the article, Ray Lewis put up "career numbers" but his stats "went down"

I don't get it... how do your stats go down but you get career numbers?
