Rob Fetter checks in today with a look at the different ways you could approach dynasty mode this year. Be sure to read his article, Different Ways to Approach Dynasty Mode, and see if you agree with all of his ideas!

"One of the best features in NCAA Football has always been the dynasty mode. It offers an opportunity for gamers to take over a NCAA football program and lead them through multiple seasons writing your new school’s future. When you start your dynasty there are multiple ways to go about picking a team, and of course you always have to run one dynasty with your favorite team. For many people that might be enough; to build your team into a national power, or just maintain that 6 star program you’re inheriting beating up on rivals and racking up bowl wins. But for some this can become dull after a while, so here are a few recommendations for spicing things up and adding longevity to the game."

I didn't see my way listed (not that I expected it to be). I always have a created school with created players filling the roster of me, my family, friends, co-workers, mentors, pets, etc. Then, I play individual seasons and try to play a season in every conference. It's goofy, and unblelievably "un-sim", but I enjoy it. I do this with all my sports games. Nothing like having your wife at safety, daughter at kicker, your best friend at WR, your dad at DT, and your trusty 4-legged best friend as a deep threat WR (no hands, so always a crap shoot). That's just me. Feel free to flame for playing this way, I can take it.

Looks good. Only problem for playing with independents or lower teams (on online dynasties) is no conference invites.

I plan on taking a lower team, and having my league do the same and watch us wok our way up. That would be competitive, all starting in the toilet as a 1 start team or 120 WKU and trying to become a powerhouse.

Ya good article, to be honest I have never played as a team in the SEC and I don't know why either, lol. So I plan on doing that and playing with WKU as well.

I played a dynasty with Indiana back in the day when my guys were playing for them, and being from Chi Illinois, I'll usually play a dynasty with Illinois once I get bored with Michigan. I played a dynasty on 08 with Kentucky and it was pretty competative! I'm a big fan of the Big10 and a big Michigan fan so it was defenitely fun to take a team like Kentucky through the tough conference schedule of the SEC. I also ran 1 with the University of Houston which was also pretty fun considering they are in a small conference. I still remember TCU being my toughest opponent every season despite their loosing record and I only ranked in 2 seasons out of 5, and came no closer than #22. I was a lot of fun though and defenitely challenging!

I was planning on doing the ACC this year, Clemson or Georgia Tech. After watching OU and Texas battle it out I can't remember how long it's been since I tried a Sooners dynasty. It's hard for me because I'm more emotionally invested in it (losing to Texas is a bad, bad thing). I will probably stick with my original target to try to get another conference under my belt...right now the ACC is the only conference I have never had a team in a dynasty in.

Great read. My buddies and I are doing an SEC dynasty with 6 people. 3 in one division, 3 in the other. It should be pretty intense.

Oh yeah I did Clemson..either last year or the year before I think it was, it was pretty fun. Ya I share that feeling when losing to Texas, hopefully I can tickets this year to go down there now that im considered a "Category 1" student, lol. I also wouldn't mind doing Tulsa, I haven't played with them in forever.

I might decide to do Notre Dame this year. As much as I dislike Notre Dame it would be fun to turn them around with playing whoever I want.

I like playing dynasty using one of the sorriest teams possible but not to build them up it's for my own personal glory to see if i can build myself up as a coach and get a chance to coach a top program. So when a good offer comes calling i go running. i.e. Tommy Bowden 12-0 at Tulane then bolts to clemson, or Urban Myer mad dash from BCS Bowl winner Utah to Florida.

hehe Everytime I play with an SEC team I have a 1 or 2 loss season losing to like a Vandy or Kentucky after winning hard fought battles the whole season and it makes me just want to break my controller in half lol

My buddy is going to take Texas A&M and I'll probably go with Oklahoma State or some other lower level Big 12 team so at least losing then won't be so painful cause I will kind of expect it

OSU will have a potent offense this season, but their defense is where it's gunna hurt em'. They are beginning to get out of the "lower" tier among the Big 12 teams.

Great article, the previous years I have played a dynasty with Mississippi State, Kentucky, Cincinatti Bearcats and the Aztecs to spice things up. I find it hard to play one with my team..the Buckeyes because their already good and things are too easy i.e. recruiting, generally every year I will play as the Bearcats, their pretty good this year in 09 though

Yep, same here. I'm 100% for sure going this year since I'm in that top category as well. I think I'm making all of the road games minus Washington as well...should be fun.

Oh yeah im pumped for this season, three road games are in Texas and one in Kansas, so not that much traveling. August 30th can't get here fast enough.

Exactly...I'll prolly travel next year too....might even sneak in the trip to Miami

To steer this back on topic....has anyone played a dynasty as Hawaii? I would think that would offer a good challenge for most folks

I play with Pitt and only Pitt and no one can make me play with anyone else. Thank you very little.

Playing with Idaho would be a challenge..lol.

Last year I played as Eastern Michigan and after 5 winning seasons, was invited to join the Big 10, replacing Indiana. I'd say the Big 10 is near the top of the list of toughest conferences.

Speaking of Michigan teams, I wouldn't mind playing with Central Michigan. Dan LeFevour is a beast, 3,652 passing yds and 1,122 rushing yds last season.
