Madden 09 News Post

IGN has posted a article called Predicting Rookie Careers with Madden '09.

Quote:
"Since we don't have millions of dollars and years of hindsight, we're going to do the next best thing -- use Madden '09's franchise mode to simulate the career of three rookies, attempting to break down their careers by simulating as many seasons as necessary to get them from hotshot rookies to grizzled, broken down veterans."

Like the other posters made mention of, the simulation engine looks really well done. I'm really feeling these outcomes. It's great to see the shorter career length for McFadden than the two QB's, as well as the injuries over the course of a career seeming to slow guys down. This is very sophisticated sim stuff, so awesome attention to detail by the devs here.

36 year old vince young with a 94 ovrl rating kinda scares me. the generic qb with 97 ovrl out of FA scares me too. Other than that, it is much improved from previous editions.

97 ovrl out of FA scares me too.... other than that sounds good.

I'm interested to see how this predicts things will go for Rashard Mendenhall and Limas Sweed both.

boo@ the team with darren mcfadden (with an 88 OVR) drafting a running back. with the first pick!

other than that tho, and a couple things u guys mentioned it looks great!

I wouldn't mind drafting a computer generated Peyton Manning once in a while.

Like how one year the highest drafted dude was 97 and another 86. The variation in draft class strengths is really impressive.

Wouldn't mind seeing more simulations!

The 97 OVR QB was a free agent, so he presumably got drafted with an OVR in the early-mid 80's and developed/progressed to 97 in game.

From the looks of those three players they all progressed pretty good. Hopefully all players progress realistically.

Very Cool! I'd like to see this for some other players

I like what I saw. I like how rookies increase in ratings, hit a plateau, and then decline in ratings.

If I had to nit pick, I would say a QB who throws 16 TD's and say 13 INT's doesn't deserve to increase in rating from 88 to 90. He should probably stay put, ratings-wise if anything.

Why is that boo? McFadden was entering his 11th year. How many teams are counting on 11th year veterans at HB? The old vet plays a year or two while the rookie gets his legs. Happens all the time.

What I liked about it though was that a McFadden retired because of it.

YES!! the Redskins will win the super bowl in 20 something years.

So basically all three of these players are legit NFL producers. When , in reality, only 1 will have the longevity and talent to last more than 5 years. And I guess none of these players were overrated? They all went up in ratings until after their prime.

lol McFadden never missed a game while he was here but now he misses 3 years with injuries? I can see one year maybe but not 3

Hello all, I am new here. While I think that the stats here look fairly accurate, the thing that bothers me is that each of these players seems to have played out their rookie contract and then hit free agency.

Does that mean that the AI will allow its stars to walk every time? How often does a franchise quarterback actually make it to the FA market in the NFL?

Man, If EA really made it to were if a player has some major injuries it well affect his play over the years thats realistic.Because in the past you would see players have some major injuries in their careers and still carry the same speed along with their rating never taking a hit to it.So if this is true then stay making it happen for us all.
