Tecmo Bowl Rushing to Wii in 2009

Over the last few days it's been a bit of a coming out party for Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff (DS), a title hoping to tap into the nostalgia of every sports-gaming fan roaming the planet. However, the long rumored Tecmo Bowl for the Nintendo Wii has also been announced; and while details are scant (there's not even an official name apparently) a release date has been set for 2009. The game could end up as a full-fledged release, or it could be a big-time title on WiiWare whenever it does hit the virtual shelves.

I'm on record saying I think some things are better off left as memories, BUT are you folks pumped for this Wii version? The other question is do you want a WiiWare version, or a boxed release for this version of Tecmo Bowl?

A simple port of the DS version with some sort of roster sharing feature and online play would be worth $50 IMO.

Who knows what they plan to do with this thing, though.

lol I just can't agree.

Listen, I LOVE Tecmo Bowl. But a 20 yr old game is not worth $50 just because it's customizable.

The game on the DS looks... "cute..." and nostalgic... but that's really about it.

I was expecting more with the hype they tried to generate.

Have you played a Tecmo Super Bowl game recently? It's not just nostalgia that keeps people playing it.

The formula still holds up incredibly well as a head-to-head experience. I'd go so far to say that it is the greatest form of head-to-head football to date.

Since it's simple, anyone can pick up the game and play it, unlike Madden or All Pro, which are very frustrating for beginners and take weeks of practice to understand the finer points of the game.

I have. That has nothing to do with what the game offers.

If they're going to piggyback on a game and play on the nostalgia of gamers, then no, it is not worth $50. Which was the point of my post.

Unless they are offering something that has a similar level to Madden or APF 2k8 then the game should be released at a discount.

How the game plays doesn't matter if it isn't deep. Until we know what the game will offer, it shouldn't be priced at $50 to sell competitively.

I'm looking forward to this (and Little League World Series) but not at a $50 price point.
