Matt Gagnon, of Waiver Wire fame, has posted his wishlist for Tiger Woods 09.

"Welcome to this week's version of "To Tell The Truth!!" Let's meet our contestants!!

"I'm Contestant #1 and I hit the links a couple of times a week, carry a 20+ handicap, drive the ball 220-250 yards and have been playing for over 10 years."

"I'm Contestant #2 and despite the fact I've been playing golf for a little more than a month, I can win just about every PGA Tour event I enter; I can beat the best golfers in the world in match play; and I drive the ball at least 320 yards."

"OK, would the real golfer please stand up?""

I love the suggestion about a "Road to the Tour" mode, complete with Nationwide Tour and Q-school. As fun as it is to max our your golfer for online play, it gets very boring against the computer. Hopefully there are ways to tone it down and give you only small improvement. We may not be the audience EA markets this game for, however.

What are you suggesting, that there should be a create-a-course mode?

I had a few more I could've added but that one slipped my mind. It'd be nice though to re-create courses like Augusta then share them over the internets.

That would be huge. I'd pay to have that course actually.

They're to stuck up to allow that course to be licensed into the game.

So would I..

Funny thing is I played Links 04 yesterday for the first time in a couple years. Like the article, having a putter with distances takes away the feel. With links all the shots in that game need a good tempo and feel to them. Something I feel Tiger has been lacking.

"Road to the tour" would be an absolute blast as long as they kept it contained, I don't see EA having a game where you spend 4 years on the Nationwide Tour until you reach the PGA. Adding the Ryder and Presidents Cups would be an awesome addition as well, it would be great to finally make your first Ryder Cup squad 5-10 years into your career. That would really be something of an accomplishment.

Alright back to Links, haven't been able to put it down since yesterday..

Contestant #2 is obviously The dude from Happy Gilmore.

Right, so someone could create it and distribute it to people. They could call it something else too to avoid alerting Brass Balls Stephens or Hootie Johnson or whoever is the chairman of Augusta Nat'l these days...

I swear I remember playing an older Links game for the PC and someone had an Augusta mod...

Fix the broken putting would be my request. The whole 1 foot for an inch thing is total crap half the time.

Online for the Wii would work for me.

I still have yet to figure out why The Ryder Cup/Presidents Cup hasn't made it into a golf game yet. The Ryder Cup is arguably the biggest event in the sport, and it hasn't made the videogame yet. It's crazy!

The Road to the Tour mode sounds pretty darn good as well. I've had fun with the Wii version, but the career modes just don't do it for me anymore.

Both have been in previous TW versions....

Putting! I agree with Sean..fix the crappy putting system. I only play tour mode so not sure how much they are concentrating on it. It's got better over the last few years except for the putting.

Augusta possibilities on any golf game would sell it!

VARIABLES!!!

Give us the option to choose "variable", meaning the tees, pins, green speed, green hardness, fairway speed and wind will all be variable, instead of setting all of these settings to the same.

Take out the challenges and give us a pure tournament feel, like matching humans up with cpu players and being able to watch the cpu player perform on the course.

Actually, I wish they would change the presentation with the commentary guys, and bring in somebody like Peter Allis, who, when describing the play-by-play makes it very interesting to listen to, pulls you in.

There are some rumors about changes in the commentary for TW09...

My wish would be for EA to implement something similar to Links 04 putting system. It would be great if they could get the "feel" down too. Links nailed it IMO.
I'm still playing Links on the 360 and enjoying it!

1. Agree on the putting, although I tend to set the putts to a higher distance than it recommends to make it more challenging and give it more of a natural feel, i.e. I set the putter to 20 feet for putts 10 feet and under (10 ft. for really close putts), and 40 feet for putts over 10 feet. It's not perfect, but I like it much better.

2. I would like to create a player, give him attributes of my choosing, and go on a customizable PGA Tour season or career (I can set the number of events, number of rounds, and difficulty). I bought the game, I would like to play it, not fiddle around with challenges for a month. This kind of design, which is present in nearly every EA game (I spent 40 minutes simming NHL 08 seasons this weekend so I could play the AHL playoffs with updated rosters -- and I still don't have any control over the other playoff teams) is mind-numbingly dumb. In nearly every other realm of technology and entertainment, the options for customization have skyrocketed in recent years. EA makes me play the par 5s at Pebble Beach so I can hit the ball farther than 220 yards. That's idiotic. I understand having the player development stuff in the game, but as a choice, not a requirement. I don't have a lot of time to play games, I want to cut to the chase when I sit down.

3. I hope to god they don't reduce the sensitivity on Tour mode. Other than the organization of the game (design, I guess) I think this game is pretty fantastic. I like the difficulty. I think the physics are pretty much spot-on (I guess you can always improve ball physics, but they're good enough that I can't complain). And, I enjoy the graphics, although there's a little slowdown in the opponents' swings I've noticed.

Looking forward to 09. And happy to hear in thinly veiled ways that the developers are looking to appeal to a mixed audience, but do it without ignoring the sim crowd. It's time for someone to make a truly great PGA Tour golf season simulation.
