You truly are the "Windy City Playboy", aren't ya!

Thankfully, I'm a lifetime subscriber, so I'm sure I'll get that issue when / if it happens...

She'd get any vote, that I wish I actually had...

Yeah, that makes sense. But, I wish that the engine was in The Show.

Negative. The creator said this week that it would "never be" licensed by MLB. BTW, they added drug suspensions this year.

Really? Well, maybe licensed isnt the correct word. They do have opening day MLB rosters though, right?

And, how can they have real players if it isnt licensed?

Modding.
Although in this case...it's not modding in the true sense. The Lehman database is converted into rosters that you can use in OOTP....the Lehman database contains real MLB players...a nice little work around.
Smart move to stay away from the MLB license(even though they could never afford it anyway!).....as they would be handcuffed as are the rest of the baseball games on the market....
No more custom league play...no editing MLB players...no suspensions(heck...I'm surprised they allow EJECTIONS in the MLB licensed games!).....only things good and sweet for the MILLION dollar playersblah..blah...blah...

Ah ok. So its beasically modded before we get it to contain the LDB? Word on that. I agree, very smart move. I guess we just need logos.

They've got 'em...they pretty much tackle everything as far as the MLB.
OOTP is a very open..highly editable game. The great thing about it?....you don't have to crack the files...go nuts trying to repack and figure out what is what...the developer actually PROMOTES guys modding the game.
He's definitely in touch with his user base.

No he's not. The ONLY time you see "Markus" show up in a thread is if someone makes a serious enough complaint to warrant him coming out from the shadows to defend why he did or did not do something. The elites pretty much run that site, and those are the ones that Markus talks to. The game is a mess, really (yes, I've played multiple versions since OOTP). LOTS of configuration options, to be sure, but the more statistically-astute on that site have found some serious bugs to continue to not be fixed, because they're made less important by the folks that say something like "here's a work-around!". I'm not trying to trash this game, but really, the earlier versions of it were just as realistic and far easier to use out of the box. One thing that Markus COULD do, but for whatever reason won't do (and won't address why) is to implement an animation engine (even if it's just 2D, which many there on the OOTP boards have said would be fine) so that one can "see" the action taking place on the field. Heck, if that game as it currently stands were fitted with even RBI Baseball graphics, it would be a better game than what SCEA is currently putting out. So, I'm not totally displeased with the OOTP product

Wow...things have changed.
I haven't been on the OOTP boards in quite a while, but Markus always used to have frequent updates to fix issues that popped up.
Sorry to hear that.
However, don't get nuts with the game being "better" than the Show if it got any kind of graphics....two totally different animals. For a manage only mode guy like me, it might make me happy, but I think there are quite a few players of the game that would disagree!

I've been in an OOTP league that's going into its 11th season (on OOTP 6.5), and a few others. OOTP is literally amazing.

Every game you see something new. I was playing the other day, I saw a balk, a line drive that hit the pitcher and the 3rd basemen picked up the ball and threw the guy out. But, what I like most is: WALKS!!! Only thing this game needs now is some minimal animation like Pure Sim Baseball has.

I love the latest features since OOTP 5. Going back to it now makes that version look like it came out during the early 90s. FaceGen alone has made fictional leagues a marvel. I can literally imagine my "players" taking the field, fielding balls, signing autographs, etc. because of that feature alone.

That's the biggest difference between OOTP and The Show: W A L K S!!! I know it sounds petty to some on here, but the lack of walks (without doing them intentionally or intentionally throwing bad pitches......or the CPU throwing balls that LOOK like balls) really holds The Show back. Also, the cpu in The Show is overly aggressive at the plate. Track a full game's worth of pitches: taken and hit......you'll see. Now, I'm a firm believer that there is no reason why OOTP can't implement even a 2D graphics engine. I know the The Show lovers would probably not like it because it wouldn't be pretty enough or they wouldn't be allowed to do all the batting and pitching themselves, but OOTP'ers don't WANT to do the hitting and pitching. That's not what that game is about. Still, NO ONE that enjoys OOTP would openly turn down the opportunity to "see" that game in action.

I would like to see the progression of how that works if it is true.

Yes they do age. I can't say I have seen it because I am one of those folks that spend days and days setting up leagues only to play a few seasons and then starting over again. I have a really good one going on now though that the boys over at ootpdevelopments.com set up with all the real MLB teams, logos, and stadiums but with fictional players all brought to life with face gen. Fictional players is def. the way to go and it is amazing how a little creativity can create some very memorable moments in your own little universe.

With face gen one of my fav. features is looking through all the past championship winners and it has all of their face gen pictures along with their names. It is almost like the Stanley Cup trophy with your name on it, once you win the player's picture will always be on that championship screen.

Best baseball experience since High Heat for me, you won't regret playing this game. I'm strictly multiplayer now, but I had blasts back in the day with my solo leagues. One of these days I'll get back to those but MP is too good right now.

Should be interesting to see how the new version pans out. I'm looking forward to it, even there are things I wish.
