News Post

This morning, the roster update that many owners of the PS3 version of The Show were waiting for was released, but not without some problems.

Because of MLBPA restrictions that prevent Sony from including players without any MLB service time, this week's roster update was highly anticipated and thought of as the real "Opening Day" roster set, since most players people were interested in have, by now, played in an actual MLB game. Most notable was Chicago Cubs' outfielder Kosuke Fukudome.

Now for the bad news. Apparently, after installing this roster update, PS3 owners quickly noticed that every single player in the league had their equipment defaulted to nothing. This means no wrist bands, no sleeves, no batting gloves. It's as though every player in the league has been freshly created without any accessories what so ever.

OperationSports.com's T.J. Cutini spoke with MLB 08: The Show senior producer Kolbe Launchbaugh about the problem earlier today. Launchbaugh's responsibilities do not extend to roster updates but he promised to look into the matter and report back to OS as soon as he had some answers.

As promised, Launchbaugh got back to us with the following:

Quote:
"Small update.

We found the issue that caused the problem and Brian is on the job looking for a fix. I still don't know when/if we can get a new roster up this week but we're going to attempt it. All roster deployments have to go through the QA process and seeing as we already do them weekly inserting another one into the mix may not be a possibility.

I'll let you know definitively when I have an answer one way or another.

-Kolbe"

We will keep you posted on any new developments regarding the roster update.

Why are you referring to yourself in the 3rd person, TJ?

I think its funny that Kolbe says the roster may take a while because of the QA process.

Where was the QA process on the last update?

If QA was doing there job this wouldn't of got by.

But at least their attempting to do something about it.

I think it's great that a company (or department of a company) responds so quickly to the community. This week would be great, but next week would be ok with me if done right. I dont know any other company that puts out a roster update on a weekly basis.

TJ if you or anyone talks to an SCEA developer could you happen to ask about the adding commentary people change to Derek Jeter glitch?

Just wanted to give a quick update, so everyone can make an informed choice. The equipment fix was simple, but getting a new roster out isn't something I'm capable of doing. I don't know when that will happen, but there are constraints that make the process more complex this time. We're sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks Brian as usual for the quick response. Hopefully you guys get it done right.

Can I start my franchise now with April 7ths roster and have the equipment fixed later on or do I have to wait for a new roster update that includes the equipment fix?

thanks

Unlike another company us 360 owners have to deal with...

Any explanation why there was no PSP update at all this week? Was it pulled? Was there also a glitch or was it ignored at the expense of getting an update out for the PS3 users?

Maybe I'm seeing things, but with the new roster update, I haven't seen this equipment problem. I've seen players with batting gloves and sleeves on, as well as elbow guards and shin guards used by the appropriate players. Just to make sure I checked the rosters to make sure the new players such as Fukudome were added, and they were.

Yes, you have the equipment problem. Everyone does.

It is in reference to the armbands, wristbands and one sleeve settings players such as Jeter or Reyes have. They are gone in this update.

Players still wear batting gloves, shin guards, elbow guards... but they don't have their "field" equipment.

This is something that may already be up online but I haven't been able to get online so I haven't been able to check, but is there a patch that is released or going to be released to fix the equipment issue or will it be something that we will just have to wait until next week's roster update to get the problem fixed?

And that my friends is the worlds longest sentence...

Of equal importance is the weird player edit glitches being reported. If you can live with the accessories missing, what about editing players? I hate to start a franchise and find out later that all created and edited players become corrupt or have a rainbow face....or worse....Derek Jeter's!

i have it all done i just need to know how to put it on the computer
