2K Sports let us know that the first 50,000 people to buy or pre-order Major League Baseball 2K8, will receive a free limited edition Jose Reyes bobblehead doll.
"Simply redeem your bonus bobblehead online via the information card included in the game package. Must redeem by March 28, 2008. Offer good while supplies last."
Not to be cynical, but would a stellar game really need cheap marketing ploys to sell games?
To some this could be a sign of weakness that they have to resort to a bobblehead frenzy to sell games.
I think that's reading a bit too much into it, games come out with swag all the time (even automatic hit sellers like FF in Japan). For me it's a combination of getting people talking, people loving free stuff, and getting an item that's right in line with some of the better in-ballpark giveaways.
Good, I hope someone enjoys the hat. No one is hoping that 2K8 or The Show do poorly, but coming from a psychology and marketing background, it's one of those questions worth mentioning.
The Reyes bobblehead will go next to my generic Mets white-dude bobblehead from the mid 90s in my bookcase. I like my generic one but he's getting a little lonely up there by himself
