Reviewing the '84-'85 Bucks: Oh 'deer'. (NBA 2K18 Play Now Online) Ep. 1

Oh 'deer', the '84-'85 Milwaukee Bucks. In reality, this club won 72% of their games and served as a nightmare on defense for any opposing team. The team finished second in the eastern conference (behind the Celtics) and made it to the conference semifinals, where they suffered a clean sweep at the hands of Philadelphia 76ers. How are they in the virtual world? Let's find out.

Right off the bat, you'll notice that this team has ten available players, a fair amount compared to most of the historic teams. I got paired up against the '12-'13 Miami Heat, poor matchup. I opted for Mike Dunleavy starting at the point, Ricky Pierce, and Terry Cummings at center. Spoil alert, I did lose the game, but it was a lot closer than it should've been. I somehow forced an overtime (55-55) but lost 64-71 (64-67 before the intentional foul shots). I also played another game against the '07-'08 Denver Nuggets, but the guy quit very early after realizing his typical tactics weren't working.

Just like real life, this team can play defense as good as anyone in the game - however, they lack shooters. Sidney Moncrief is the team's highest rated player at an 89 overall but was not the best. Moncrief did manage to lock down Dwayne Wade, but offensively, was a liability. I shot 0-3 from deep, and 3-10 in total using Moncrief. He was open on most to all of his attempted shots, but still missed practically all of them. The only luck I really had with him was driving the lane for some contested layups, something you rarely see made in this game.

Point guards Craig Hodges and Mike Dunleavy are the supposed 'shooters' on this team, sporting a B+ and B- deep rating respectively. Despite their ratings, neither player shot well for me. In total, on mostly open shots, these 'shooters' shot for a combined 2-9 from three. Surprisingly, Terry Cummings shot a perfect 2-2 from three despite having an F rating and shooting 0-5 from three in reality up until this point. This game really makes no sense sometimes, and really lacks consistency in practically every way imaginable. In total, I attempted 19 threes, only successfully connecting on 5 (.263%). Shooting is a huge issue when using this team against a more modern team like the LeBron led Heat.

Terry Cummings is easily the teams best-kept secret. Cummings scored 21 points on .615% shooting. Cummings also managed to grab 14 rebounds with 4 being on the offensive side. Cummings was the only player to score over 10 points, and even tallied up numbers on the defensive side of the ball with a single steal and a pair of blocks. Cummings was definitely the reason I stayed in this for so long, and without him, this matchup would've been nearly impossible.

I don't believe in set lineups, but I believe this lineup is the best lineup to use with this team: Sidney Moncrief, Paul Pressey, Ricky Pierce, Terry Cummings, Alton Lister. This lineup allows Pressey and Pierce to play their natural positions and allows you to have your two best shooters coming off the bench to spark things up.

I believe that's all I really have to say about this team. I'm not sure if I'd really recommend using this team unless the user really knows how to use them. They lack shooters, scorers, and play one-dimensionally. Against older teams, you should be alright, against modern teams, it's really a toss-up.
