A's win a Pitcher's Duel in Anaheim
Posted on March 26, 2009 at 05:02 AM.
Game 2 of the series between the A's and Angels is a great pitching duel between Dana Eveland and Kelvim Escobar. The A's manage 13 hits, but they're fairly well scattered throughout and they aren't able to get runs across the plate. Eric Chavez hits the A's first home run of the year to deep Center Field in the 2nd inning. It's a solo shot and provides the only scoring for the A's early. Eveland pitches 5 1/3 shutout innings before Vlad touches him for a double and later scores on a single by Juan Rivera.
The score remains tied into the ninth and the game is finally pushed into extra innings. In the top half of the 10th, Sweeney punches a single into right center and later advances to 2nd on a bunt by Ellis. Giambi grounds out to 1st, advancing Sweeney over to 3rd. Holliday with 2 outs, sends a base hit out to center plating Sweeney as the go ahead run.
Brad Ziegler comes into the 10th inning and shuts the door for his second save in 2 attempts as the A's win in extra frames.

Oakland 2-0.
