5/3/13-Hornets, Pistons release backup point guards

Charles Jenkins

NEW ORLEANS-The New Orleans Hornets have released Jeremy Pargo and the Detroit Pistons have released Charles Jenkins, according to reports from both teams.

The Hornets released Pargo hours after the team acquired point guard Mike Bibby from the Cleveland Cavaliers. In 24 games for the Hornets in 2012-13, the Gonzaga product averaged 2.5 points.

Pargo, who went undrafted in 2009, played 44 games for the Grizzlies in 2011-12, averaging 2.9 points and 1.3 assists.

Detroit cut Jenkins despite previous reports that they would keep the Hofstra graduate. A Pistons front office source said the team chose to release Jenkins after consideration because the team would rather target a project point guard in the draft.

Acquired from the Golden State Warriors in the Jarrett Jack trade, Jenkins–Golden State's 2011 second round pick–averaged 2.5 points and 1.3 assists in 20 games for the Warriors in 2012-13. As a rookie in 2011-12, Jenkins averaged 5.8 points and 3.3 assists in 51 games.
