Daniel Gibson
CLEVELAND-The Cleveland Cavaliers cut ties with one of their most senior players Tuesday, sending guard Daniel Gibson to the Boston Celtics for point guard Andrew Goudelock.
Gibson had played for the Cavaliers since 2006, when the team selected him out of Texas in the second round of the draft. Aside from center Anderson Varejao, Gibson was the longest-tenured player on the team.
He averaged 3.6 points and 1.0 assists in 76 games for the Cavaliers in 2012-13, a far cry from the 11.6 points he averaged as a starter two years ago. Gibson was rookie Dion Waiters' backup this season.
Although Gibson primarily played shooting guard for the Cavaliers, Celtics head coach Doc Rivers said Gibson would play point guard for the Celtics and back up Rajon Rondo and Leandro Barbosa.
Gibson signed a two-year contract extension with the Celtics worth $4 million after the completion of the trade.
Cleveland immediately waived Goudelock after the trade. In 42 games for the Celtics, the College of Charleston product averaged 4.6 points per game.
