DENVER-Despite monster efforts by the Los Angeles Lakers' Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant, Ty Lawson and the Denver Nuggets used a decisive second quarter to pull out a narrow 104-101 win and take their first round series in five games.

Four of the Lakers' starters accounted for 94 of the team's 101 points in the loss, led by Kobe Bryant's 34 points and six assists. Dwight Howard also scored 30 points and collected seven rebounds, but it wasn't enough to top Lawson and the Nuggets.

Lawson finished with 29 points and eight assists in the win. Denver had two other starters score in double figures. Andre Iguodala scored 17 points, while Wilson Chandler scored 14 points. Danilo Gallinari, pushed to the bench after Kenneth Faried's return from injury, scored 13 points.

Steve Nash scored 20 points and tallied nine assists and five rebounds. Pau Gasol finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
