On March 14th, I was hit by a minivan on the street in front of my house. The individuals that did this have not been identified or even caught. This was done on purpose, they actually hopped the curb to hit me. This incident has been covered by the news agencies in Toronto extensively. This "accident" left me with a broken L2 vertebrae and nerve damage. At this time I am unable to walk.
I am currently living at Lyndhurst Rehab Center, where I am learning how to walk again. This has been a difficult 10 weeks for me. My wife, witnessed the accident, has looked after me for the past 10 weeks and taken on all the household responsibilities. For me, not being able to move my legs is difficult. I have been athletic my whole life and I am a Phys'ed teacher. So, being active is a major part of my life. During this time, I have lost 30 pounds of muscle mass due to muscle attraphy.
Due to all of this, my sister has started a fund raiser for me and a website to help me (www.getmikewalking.com). I just thought I would put this out into the OS community to check out. Thanks for taking the time to read this blog and thank you very much if you check out the website.

Bronco92 thank you from the bottom of my heart! I do not have the words to thank you appropriately. Just know that I am working hard to get better everyday.
To everyone else, thank you for your prayers and well wishes.
If anyone is interested in the whole story, Google "teacher egged". Funny title, however not a funny event. There you will find the new sources story about what happened to me!

Just read the article, hopeful that the punks get caught. Wish you for a speedy recovery, and that you CAN walk again, it's just a matter of time.

Mike, I hope you recover very soon and have satisfaction of finding the a-hole that did this.

Just a little update. I was standing a lot today. I fell like I will be walking by the end of June!

I know how you feel, I have Cerebral Palsy which affects my legs. I underwent an operation at age 8 where they broke every bone in both my legs and rearranged muscles. I had to learn how to walk again, it took two years but now at age 17 I play baseball and I am quite active.
It's through these sorts of events that we become stronger individuals and learn to not take things for granted. I hope you are able to recover and come back stronger both physically and mentally.

Sorry to hear about this.
I know what it's like to lose the ability to walk. I have Muscular Dystrophy and have been unable to walk for the past 6 years. It's one of the most devastating things that has happened to me in my 27 years on this earth. I've grown to accept it, but it was a struggle for a long time.
Keep you're head up and stay positive.
