The season opener for both Southwest division rivals, the Spurs were the clear favourites. The game started as you would expect, the Spurs got out to an early 5 point lead behind a quickfire 7 points from Manu Ginobli.
The Spurs controlled the first quarter and were leading 32-26. at the first break. Ginobli had 13 points and 3 assists, but the Hornets had managed to keep Tony Parker relatively quiet. Eric Gordon started to heat up in the 2nd Quarter, scoring 9 points, while Greivis Vasquez had 4 assists. The Spurs led it at the half, 54-51.
The third quarter definitely belonged to the home team, as the Hornets went on an 8-0 run to start the period. The Spurs eventually steadied and the quarter finished in a tie, 79 a piece. The Spurs exploded out of the gates in the 4th quarter in similar fashion to the Hornets in the third. They started the period on a 11-2 run and never looked back, winning the game 105-97. The Hornets fans were dissapointed but inspired by the potential they saw on display during the game.
