I've often scratched my head from week-to-week when the various polls are released. A top tier team loses to a top tier team yet slips behind teams that they were previously believed able to beat.
I wonder what exactly it is that the "coaches" or the Associated Press use when determining how to rank teams. I've always believed it should be the best team 1st and then the next best, next best after that and so on all the way down the list. However, it seems more like polls these days are more about punishing losses and rewarding wins (unless you're a non-BCS team) from week-to-week.
So, I set out to create my own weekly rankings which I will update the day following the last college football game of the week and post on PX1Sports.com. My criteria will be solely based on who I believe can beat the teams behind them. Losses to other highly ranked opponents won't necessarily mean that teams moves much in the rankings. If the #1 team in the country loses to the #2 team in the country but can still beat #3-126, then they should fall no further than #2.
Without further ado, here is my Top 10 for Week 2 of the college football season:
