The Flexbone
Posted on September 20, 2010 at 04:43 PM.

This is the basic flexbone formation. The flexbone allows you to have 4 possible runners and 4 possible recievers on any given play. The bread and butter play of this formation is the triple option. The triple option is named this because there is 3 possible ball carriers, the FB on dive into the middle of the line, the QB keeping it to the outside or the HB or Slotback recieving the pitch from the QB. this offense builts onto the triple option with load options and speed options and tosses. Most of the plays in this offense use auto motion to further confuse the defense. the very few teams that run this use it to run almost all the time which helps the teams with not the best talent to keep up with the top teams by running the ball and keeping their offense on the field by having an advantage in Time Of Possession. Paul Johnson actually has some run n shoot concepts in the flex at Georgia Tech and it is shown in the game as well. the passing game can be very effective as this formation was the original balanced run n shoot formation used by Glenn "Tiger" Ellison.
