Pirates Involved in 3 Team Trade
Walker Called Up

The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired 3 players in a 3 team trade that involved the Texas Rangers and Minnesota Twins, it was announced today by GM Joe Fleming.

Fleming clued us in on how the trade came to be... "When Texas lost their starting 2nd baseman Iam Kinsler, they were in the market for a replacement. They contacted me about Aki Iwamura. I knew going into negotiations the exact player that I wanted (Smoak), but it couldn't be done without Minnesota. Once I contacted them and got JJ Hardy involved, it was a done deal.

It is hard to part with the 3 players that we gave up, but it is all part of the business. Smoak was definitely the centerpiece.

We are very excited to see what Justin Smoak can do for us as the starting 1st baseman for the Pirates."

Hey loaf, how did you have a three way trade?

I had to manually do it. When the Rangers accepted the trade, I felt like I ripped them off, so I found another team to trade with. I really did 2 trades, but with some of the same players....a 3 team trade sounded better.

Ahhh, I see. Makes sense. They should add a 3 team trade feature because it does happen sometimes.
