DETROIT LIONS 2022 SEASON PREVIEW
Coming off of a 1-16 2021 season, changes were expected. The house cleaning was not.
Lions ownership cleaned house, firing Head Coach Dan Campbell, and his entire coaching staff. Thomas Peters was hired as the Head Coach. Bryan Warner was brought in to coach the offense, and Scott Anderson brought in to coach the defense.
The turnover didn't stop with the front office. A lot of the roster was overhauled. Gone are players like Trey Flowers, Romeo Okwara. They were dealt for draft picks. The Lions had 11 picks in the 2022 Draft. Their selections were as follows...
1. Vontae Mack, OLB, Ohio State
1. Kemani Barrett, FS, Notre Dame
2. Jalen Kelley, SS, Colorado
3. Alvin Mack, MLB, Florida State
3. Leon Sandcastle, CB, Florida State
3. Rod Tidwell, WR, Arizona
4. Zaire Byars, WR, Pittsburgh
5. Jamal Jackson, OG, Washington
6. Jon Moxon, QB, Texas
6. Darnell Jefferson HB, Florida State
7. Steve Lattimer, DT, Florida State
After training camp, and preseason, all but QB Jon Moxon, and HB Darnell Jefferson had won starting jobs. Moxon will start the season as the backup to Jared Goff, while Jefferson figures to get plenty of time in the backfield, because of his explosive speed.
