RUNNING GAME, TURNORVERS LEAD LIONS OVER RAVENS 27-24

The Detroit Lions rushed for 221 yards, and the defense forced three Lamar Jackson interceptions, en route to a 27-24 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. The Lions improve to 3-0 with the win. The Ravens fell to 1-2.

Baltimore outgained the Lions 456 to 377, but the three interceptions, one in the end zone, were devastating. Baltimore couldn't get the run game going at all. The Lions made a clear effort to eliminate the running of Jackson, and held him to just 2 rushing yards, and the Ravens to just 59 total yards on the ground. Tracy Walker, Amani Oruwariye, and Will Harris had interceptions, with Harris' coming in the end zone.

The Lions rushing attack was outstanding all game long. D'Andre Swift rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown on just 13 carries. Jamaal Williams added 99 yards and a score on 18 carries. Swift and Williams have provided a great 1-2 punch all season long. Jared Goff was steady at QB, completing 16 of 21 for 204 yards and a touchdown. He also didn't force any throws down field, taking 5 sacks, when no one was open. T.J. Hockenson had 8 catches for 132 yards. Most of his catches came on 3rd down.

The Lions opened the scoring at 8:09 of the first, on a 25 yard pass from Goff to Hockinson. The Ravens and Lions would trade field goals, before Raven's tight end Mark Andrews caught the first of two second quarter TD passes, to tie the game at 10. Jamaal Williams scored on a 2 yard run with just 34 seconds left in the half, putting the Lions up 17-10. But the Ravens came right back, and scored on a 17 yard Jackson to Andrews strike with just 9 seconds left in the half.

D'Andre Swift scored on a 2 yard run at 8:12 of the third quarter. Austin Seibert added a 49 yard field goal with 6:04 left in the game, to put the Lions up 27-17. Gus Edwards scored on a 10 yard run with 2:28 left, cutting the Lions lead to 3, 27-24. But that would be as close as the Ravens would get. They were unable to stop Detroit, and the Lions ran the clock out for the victory.

The Lions will travel to Chicago next Sunday, to take on the 1-2 Chicago Bears. The Bears are coming off of a hard fought 28-25 loss to the Cleveland Browns. In that game, rookie Justin Fields threw for 240 yards and 2 TD, with one interception. But, the Bears couldn't get anything going rushing the football. Look for them to try to establish the run against the Lions, to take pressure off of their rookie QB.
