TIGERS ACQUIRE TREVOR STORY FROM ROCKIES

It is official. The Detroit Tigers have acquired shortstop Trevor Story from the Colorado Rockies, shoring up their defense, and adding a potent bat to their lineup. In exchange, the Rockies will get rookie shortstop Willi Castro, and pitcher Franklin Perez.

Story may have been the best offensive player available. He hit .283 with 13 HR and 38 RBI in 92 games with the Rockies, though he figures to get many more opportunities to drive runs in with the Tigers. Better yet, Story is a much better defensive shortstop than Castro is. So, not only is it an upgrade with the bat, but an upgrade in the field as well. It remains to be seen where Story will fit in the Tigers lineup. Story is expected to be in Detroit in time for tonight's game against the Rangers, though it remains unclear if he will be in the lineup or not.

Castro hit .266 with 5 HR and 27 RBI in 87 games for the Tigers. Castro has a lot of promise, especially with the bat, but his defense has been subpar thus far this season.

Franklin Perez was once a highly touted prospect. However, injuries have derailed him the last couple seasons. He was pitching well for AA Erie though, going 6-2 in 13 starts, with a 2.33 ERA, and 70 strikeouts in 85 innings. He is just 22 years old. The Rockies hope he can develop into a middle of the rotation arm.
