TIGERS 3 RANGERS 2 JULY 20, 2021

Miguel Cabrera hit a three run home run, and Matthew Boyd pitched 7+ strong innings, leading the Tigers to a 3-2 victory over the Texas Rangers Tuesday night in Detroit. Boyd allowed just 2 runs on 4 hits in 7.2 innings. He struck out 6. Cabrera's three run home run in the 4th inning was all the scoring the Tigers would get, but it was all they needed. Michael Fulmer induced a game ending double play in the 9th, to earn his 14th save of the season.

Game 3 of the 4 game series is Wednesday night. Jose Urena (3-0, 3.93) starts for the Tigers, against Kyle Gibson (2-10, 5.02) for the Rangers. Game time is 7:10PM

ASTROS ACQUIRE VAZQUEZ LEADING UP TO TRADE DEADLINE

The Houston Astros shored up the catcher position by acquiring Christian Vazquez from the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night. Vazquez hit .257 with 10 HR and 35 RBI in 81 games with the Red Sox. The Astros designated catcher Martin Maldonado for assignment to make room for Vazquez. Maldonado hit .233 in 71 games for the Astros.

The Red Sox receive a couple prospects from the Astros in return. SS Jeremy Pena, the 4th best prospect in the Astro's system, and P Nick Hernandez go to Boston in the deal. The Red Sox also recalled cathing prospect Ronaldo Hernandez from Triple A Worcester, to replace Vazquez on the roster. This move is the first move in what is expected to be a very active 11 days leading up to the July 31 trade deadline.
