The Texas Rangers returned the favor of early scoring against the Oakland A's Sunday, scoring six runs in the second inning en route to a 10-3 series-clinching victory at Globe Life Park.
Texas (2-4) scored all six of its second-inning runs after two outs were recorded. Shin-Soo Choo started the two-out rally with a single. It was Carlos Gomez's two-out grand slam that made it 5-0 and set the Rangers on a path for victory.
Yu Darvish rebounded from his season-opening loss with 10 strikeouts in seven-plus innings and a no-hitter which he carried into the sixth. James Loney busted out of his early-season slump with a 4-for-5 day that included a solo homer in the eighth, his first of the year.

The Oakland Athletics blew up for eight runs on seven hits in the first inning Saturday, but they had to fight off a late rally by the host Texas Rangers to hold on for an 11-8 win that evened the teams' series at one game a piece.
The A's (3-3) batted around and then some in the first, chasing Texas starter Martin Perez (0-1) before he could even get out of the opening frame. Rajai Davis started the inning with a leadoff single, stole two bases and scored the team's first run, and then he capped the rally with a two-run home run to make it 8-0. Oakland added to its lead with two more runs in the third inning that made it 10-0 after just 2 1/2 innings.
But the Rangers (1-4) fought back, getting a single run in the third and a solo shot from Carlos Gomez in the sixth to make it 10-2. Texas would score seven runs across the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to pull to within three runs at 11-8, but that's as close as it would get. Every starter but Adrian Beltre had at least one hit for Texas.
The Rangers hit two home runs, two doubles and a triple in the game, including a 444-foot moonshot halfway up the second deck in right field by Rougned Odor. Davis went 5 for 6 with two doubles, a home run, two RBIs and two stolen bases for Oakland.

It took four games and two different opponents, but the Texas Rangers finally got their first win of 2017 with a 4-0 shutout of their AL West Division foe, the Oakland Athletics.
Adrian Beltre got on the board with his first home run of the season - a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth that made it 4-0 and gave the Rangers some breathing room. The Rangers scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to break open what had been a tense pitchers' duel for most of the evening.
Andrew Cashner (1-0) was dominant in his first start of the year, throwing eight shutout innings and scattering just four hits - all singles - with eight strikeouts and no walks. He helped give the Rangers' taxed bullpen a break, which had worked 8 1/3 innings over three games against the Indians.
Carlso Gomez notched his first RBI of the year while Elvis Andrus and Nomar Mazara also added ribbies. Khris Davis went 3 for 4 for Oakland but was stranded every time he reached base.

Cleveland (3-0) busted out its big sticks in the series finale to complete the season-opening three-game sweep over the Rangers on the road. The Indians hit two home runs - including an eighth-inning grand slam by Chris Colabello that proved to be the difference in the game.
The Rangers (0-3) actually erased a 3-0 early deficit after the Indians had posted three in the second inning thanks in part to a two-run bomb by Yan Gomes. Two Texas runs in the seventh made it a brand new ballgame at 3-3, but Cleveland didn't wait around to take back the lead. It loaded the bases in the top of the eighth to chase Texas starter Tyson Ross, then Colabello's grannie came off of reliever Jeremy Jeffress.
The Rangers will look for their first win of the year after a day off when they start a three-game series versus AL West Division foe Oakland.

Tough loss in game two of the season-opening series. Mike Napoli's two-run HR in the bottom of the sixth erased a deficit and gave the Rangers a 3-2 lead, but the bullpen couldn't hold on to it, as closer Sam Dyson gave up the tying run with two outs in the top of the ninth. The game wouldn't even had gone to extras had it not been for a clutch relay throw from the left field corner by rookie Jared Hoying to Elvis Andrus to the plate - ending the inning and keeping it tied.
Good start by Cole Hamels spoiled after he outlasted his counterpart Carlos Carrasco, throwing seven innings and leaving with the lead after striking out nine and walking none.

The 2017 season opener goes to the Indians (1-0). What was a pitchers' duel for most of the game became more comfortable for the Indians in the 7th when they tacked on two runs to push their lead to 3-0. Texas (0-1) finally chased Cleveland starter Corey Kluber in the ninth inning, scratching across its first run of the game, but the damage had already been done.
