ARLINGTON, Texas -- Paulo Orlando led off Friday's game with a solo home run, and the host Rangers answered with three home runs of their own throughout the game, but the Royals emerged victorious again with another impressive offensive performance in game two, beating Texas 8-6 at Globe Life Park.
Kansas City's (10-6) victory was a near mirror image to Thursday's series-opening win. Orlando's first-inning shot gave the Royals a 1-0 first-inning lead for the second straight day, and a big third inning made it 4-1 early, after Mike Napoli's solo shot in the second had tied it at 1-1, like the score was after the first on Thursday. But it was their three-run sixth that put them ahead for good and held off a Texas rally.
The Royals logged hit after hit after hit in the sixth, chasing starter Cole Hamels (0-3) and even teeing off against reliever Alex Claudio before the inning was finally ended. Then came back-to-back homers by Rougned Odor and Adrian Beltre in the bottom of the sixth, followed by a three-run seventh by the Rangers that made it 7-6. Texas had the tying run on second and just one out with Beltre at bat in the seventh, but Odor was picked off and one pitch later Beltre grounded out to end the threat.
The Rangers will try to salvage a split in the series starting Saturday with Tyson Ross on the mound against Jason Hammel.
