Trout Powers Angels To Win In Opener

Mike Trout hit a three-run go-ahead homer in the third and drove in more insurance in the eighth as he helped power his Los Angeles Angels to a 6-2 series-opening win over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.

Trout's two-out, three-run bomb in the third erased what was a 1-0 Rangers (2-5) lead after Shin-Soo Choo had hit a leadoff solo shot in the top half of the inning. The three-run blast was a culmination of a two-out rally by the top of LA's order. Ben Revere got a two-out single, Kole Calhoun worked a two-out walk, then Trout homered to give them the lead for good.

Another quality start by Cole Hamels (0-1) was wasted by the Rangers after he went seven innings, only allowing the three runs on Trout's long ball and striking out seven. Keone Kela entered in relief in the eighth having struck out every batter he's faced this year (six Ks in two innings pitched), but he proceeded to give up hits to four of the first five batters he faced, including back-to-back RBI doubles to both Trout and Albert Pujols, allowing the Angels to open up what was a one-run game into a 6-2 advantage.
