Rams Crush Cardinals 42-14
The Cardinals' playoff hopes almost certainly came to an end in this one as they fall to 5-7 on the season. The Rams were explosive right out of the gates as they rattled off 14 points in 2 commanding drives to start the game and took a 14-point lead 11 minutes into the game.
However, the Cardinals responded on the very next play with a 75-yard touchdown run from Adrian Peterson. Peterson rushed for 137 yards on 20 carries. He has now run the football 63 times with Kyle Peltz at the helm and has rushed for 431 yards in these 2 games. Despite an extremely slow start to the season, Peterson has all but locked up another 1000-yard season as he only needs to gain 119 yards total in the last 4 games of the season. On Los Angeles' next drive they managed to get into field goal range at the 34 yard line before the drive stalled. Antoine Bethea blocked the kick and took it to the house to even the game at 14-14 as the first quarter came to a close. Unfortunately, 14 was all that Arizona would get in this one, as the Rams defense stifled the Cards' offense. Jared Goff went on to throw 4 more touchdown passes; 2 to Watkins and 2 to Kupp. He wound up with 5 touchdowns and zero interceptions on the day and completed over 80%
of his passes in what was likely the best game of his young career.
Larry Fitzgerald caught 5 passes today and picked up 62 yards. He now has 80 catches and 884 receiving yards in 2017. He is just 19 yards away from passing Randy Moss as 3rd place all-time in receiving yards.
If he sticks around for another season, he'll likely pass Terrell Owens and become the 2nd most prolific receiver in NFL history in terms of receiving yards.
Matt Barkley got his second straight start today and threw an interception early on. He wasn't quite as good as he was in his start last week against Jacksonville and Blaine Gabbert came in for him late in the 4th quarter. When prompted, interim head coach Peltz declined to discuss whether Barkley would start again next week against the Titans.
