Cards Dominate Jags, Win 31-17
The Cardinals showed out in this Week 12 win to advance to 5-6 and keep their small playoff hopes alive. From the beginning of the game,
Adrian Peterson was the story of the game. He came 2 yards shy of breaking his record for rushing yards in a single game. Not only did he rush for 294 yards, but he did it against one of the league's most dominant defenses. Jacksonville lived up to its reputation as "Sacksonville" as they brought down first-time starter Matt Barkley 6 times, but they simply had no answer against Adrian Peterson who rushed the ball an incredible 43 times. Speaking of Matt Barkley, he performed well overall despite some early accuracy issues. He lost a fumble on a rushing attempt early in the game, but he managed to avoid throwing an interception in the game. He threw the ball 29 times and completed 18 passes for 195 yards. Blake Bortles also threw the ball 29 times, but only completed 15 of his throws as he struggled with accuracy all game.
Most of Jacksonville's offense came on 2 big plays today, but the Arizona defense was pretty lights out other than that. The Cardinals dominated the time of possession today as they held the ball for just over two-thirds of the game. Leonard Fournette ran for a 58 yard touchdown in the first quarter, but on his other 12 carries the Cardinals held him to just 12 yards. Besides the one big play, Jacksonville's running game was a non-factor. Kyle Peltz said he was proud of his team after the game, but that there were still some glaring issues, such as holes in the secondary and an inability to throw the ball down the field. It remains to see whether the Cardinals running game has come alive or whether this game was a fluke performance. The answer to that question will likely determine whether the Cardinals can contend for a playoff spot this season. The Cardinals face the Rams next week in Arizona.
