2016 Clippers Game 1 @ Sacramento

Clippers blown out in season opener

The Clippers season began today in Sacramento, but the team did not show up. They played well for most of the 1st quarter, but then their defense fell apart for the rest of the game. They trailed by just 5 at the half, but the Kings proceeded to outscore them 35-14 in the 3rd quarter to put the Clippers away early. The final score was 110-83 The only positive to come out of this game is that the starters should be fresh for their home opener tomorrow night against the Mavericks since they did not play at all in the 4th quarter. Even without Demarcus Cousins in the Kings' lineup, the Clippers allowed 54 points in the paint. Willie Cauley-Stein looked more like DeAndre Jordan than Deandre Jordan did. Rudy Gay led all scorers with 22 points, however the Clippers did hold him to 9/26 from the field. One of the biggest problems last year for the Clippers was their inability to guard small forwards. Lance Stephenson and Josh Smith provided solid defense throughout the game which was nice to see since they were signed in large part to fix that problem. The duo also provided 21 points on 9/18 shooting.
