Tigers crushed 14-2

Alfredo Simon struggled from the outset, but some critical defensive mistakes allowed the Indians to break the game open. The Tigers only offense today came in their first three at-bats. Gose drew a walk, Kinsler hit a triple, and then Cabrera drove in Kinsler with a ground ball to the right side of the infield for his 100th RBI of the season. This is the 12th consecutive season where Miguel has driven in 100+ RBI which puts him one season short of tying the all-time record. Alex Rodriguez, Lou Gehrig, and Jimmie Foxx all had streaks of 13 consecutive seasons. At just 31 years of age, Miguel Cabrera should be able to hit at this level for at least a few more years and barring injury, it seems likely that he will break the all-time record. He is hitting .322 with 33 homers as well this season and is in contention for his 3rd AL MVP title. Currently, Mike Trout and Troy Tulowitzki are considered slight favorites in Vegas, but a strong finish to the season as well a Tigers postseason berth could get him over the hump. Tomorrow the Tigers will look to bounce back and tie the series with the Indians with Randy Wolf (9-5, 3.85 ERA) takes the mound. Gavin Floyd (7-15, 4.88 ERA) will start for Cleveland. Despite the fact that the Tigers are still only 2 games back of the Angels for the second wild-card spot they will have to turn things around soon if they hope to qualify for the postseason. They have gone 13-32 since the All-Star break after starting the season at a staggering 56-34 clip. It's been a weird season and hopefully another twist of fate will allow Detroit to advance to the postseason for the 5th consecutive season.
